Radiance of the Seas

11 Night New Zealand (Sydney Roundtrip)

Sail date: January 07, 2020

Ship: Radiance of the Seas

Traveled as: Couple

Reviewed: 4 years ago

Review summary

We traveled with another couple which allowed for fun times. When I first boarded I was surprised and somewhat dismayed at the condition of the ship. The safety demonstration was a farce as the speaker was not working in our section. Fellow passengers complained and the crew member acknowledged it was faulty. I decided I’m on here for 11 nights so make the most of it, I lowered my expectations, had fun with our friends and were grateful for the hardworking crew who make the ship!!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Cascades was excellent, delicious food with brilliant waiters which added to the whole experience. The buffet at Windjammer was pleasing enough.

Onboard Activities

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Performances were on the whole excellent. The Cruise Director needed to have more of a profile around the ship and also talked way to fast when on stage. It was like she was ‘over’ it all.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Our waiters, room steward, bar staff and coffee staff were fantastic. The ships officers kept a low profile and appeared to keep their distance from passengers. A very different experience on our previous cruise with another company. A simple smile, nod or brief chat goes a long way.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The ship was clean, our cabin spotless but all in dire need of a refurbishment. Some areas were just plain depressing.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
We booked late so had a window cabin, it worked well and because we spent relatively little time in the room we never missed not having a balcony. The bed was extremely comfortable and the room was spacious enough for our needs including ample storage. Our room attendant went above and beyond to ensure it was well presented and our electrical cords were neatly placed to avoid tripping hazards.

Ship tip

Choose a cruise that is not in school holidays. Apparently it is being refurbished later in the year I would hold off booking until that has happened.

This port was cancelled due to poor weather unfortunately no alternative port was offered which was disappointing as the cruise was 11 nights with only 4 ports of call, hence ended up being only 3!
