Review summary

We chose this particular cruise as we wanted and thought we might be able to see the northern lights. We did a shore excursion to chase them but they never appeared - ironically we got back on board and a hour later they lit up the sky! All in all a wonderful cruise, we both had a thermal spa package to assist with the cold as it wasn’t warm during the day and you couldn’t really swim in the outside pool unless very brave.

Always find the onboard evening entertainment a little frustrating. Also have a lot of the same visiting acts that repeat their sets - a little tired.

First time we had docked here and it appeared very industrial. We decided to just go for a walk and found our way up to the cable car - it was reasonably priced and the sunset was beautiful. We also did an excursion in the evening to find the northern lights but on this occasion failed.

We didn’t do an excursion as you can walk into town and visit the aquarium easily. We also decided to walk over the bridge to the cathedral and the wind was howling but worth it. Beer was excellent too

We have visited Alesund on several occasions and this was the first time that we didn’t make our way up the steps and just had a leisurely walk around town - it was beautiful in the winter months.
