It sucked...end of!!!

When I feel better I'll elaborate!Sad

This opinion does not reflect our steward.  Suffice it to say, standards have dropped dramatically.  It must be a British thing because Harrod's was disappointing, too!

Excellent cruise on the QueenMary - New York to Southampton to New York.  Beautiful ship, fine accommodations, excellent food and service, good speakers, good information from the captain.  Wonderful table companions, good options for dining.  Excellent room steward,Bert.  Would highly recommend the Queen Mary for ambience, get away lounges, food options, entertainment, and planetarium.  large  ship with a small feel.

Great crossing by firstglobal

Ship: Queen Mary 2 / Destination: Transatlantic

Cannot say enough about the outstanding service and comfort of the QM2, so glad we decided on this way to unwind after a very busy month of visiting friends and relatives.  It was a great Cunard experience.

I cannot say the same for the port facilities in Brooklyn.  It was unfortunate that we needed to carry all of our bags through Customs - no trolleys or other aids available - for the hour-long queue - not a good first impression to NYC!

Doesn't compare to Celebrity by dayspring4

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Queen Mary 2 / Destination: Transatlantic

This was our first experience on Cunard.  Our favorite cruise line is Celebrity, so we will be comparing the two.  Arrival and check-in in Southhampton were chaotic, staff was hard to find, long walks and long lines.  The separation of "classes" was apparent this whole trip.  Certain areas and eating venues etc. were only available to the upper classes.  Really strange to experience as an American.  The room was nicely decorated, but do NOT pay the extra fee for a balcony room.  The balcony is enclosed and only gives a view of the sky.  Our room steward was very good and friendly.  The shower had a nasty shower CURTAIN! Not a door. Also, the shower drain was slow and had a sewage odor.  The food was very British....odd offerings and combinations for an American.  The dining room menu does not offer any everyday choices (like Celebrity), in case none of the specials appeal to you.  Also, even with open seating, they assign a table to you and you are stuck there for the whole trip.  Compared to Celebrity, the entertainment was a big zero. It was like being at a cheap amusement park!

Queen Mary 2 | Nov 26, 2016 | 12 Night Eastern Caribbean (New York Roundtrip) by bdudley7

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Queen Mary 2 / Destination: Caribbean

The ship was glorious and just the right mix between sea and port days.  The entertainment and cultural enrichment was top notch and the food was excellent as always.  The dining room service was a bit off, but I think that was just our particular steward.  The cabin (sheltered balcony) was well appointed and very comfortable.

A particular highlight was Roger McGuinn as the celebrity guest lecturer and the opportunity to talk to him in the Commodore Club.

You want for nothing. by williamgiovanni

From window washers to officers on this ocean liner, they could not do enough for you. The Queens Grille accommodations were way over the top. Weather it is live entertainment, movies, lectures, food, food, food. We never missed "high tea". In the Queens Grille, if you wanted lobster every night you could have it.All types of table side service. I tried a few special requests to see if the kitchen could accommodate, they were spot on. We definitely would return to this ship again and are looking to go back on in 2018 for at least 21 days. Did I fail to mention they even have a kennel if you want to travel with your pet. Also a casino and many types of bars, libraries, board games and nice quality shops with very fair prices.Love

Old Style Elegant Cruising by billloret

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Queen Mary 2 / Destination: Caribbean

Favorite: was overall mindset of cruise to have an above average cruise experience and it was. Service, food, music, & many varied activities were all above average. Something to do all day long whatever your interests.

Ship is a study in understated elegance

Minus

I am no snob, but Dress code not enforced, more stragglers than I remember from previous cruise.

Cost of theme restaurants too high, cost of  water at gangway too high.

Cost of excursions very high compared to same available on shore. I understand the "insurance policy fo leaving no ship sponsored trip behind"  BUT

After the Remastering by 4Sailor

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Queen Mary 2 / Destination: Caribbean

After the $132 million dollar renovation some things fell quite short.

First of all QM2 no longer has inside smoking rooms. We cannot possibly

understand how you provide smoking for cigars and pipes and NOT cigarettes in

the same room!  The past two voyages were accommodating with an inside smoking room AND  smoking outside under the overhang on deck 8 pool level.  Now you have to bake in the sun or rain on deck 7.  Did Cunard forget that this is a transatlantic voyage and the North Atlantic is a cold and windy place to be.  Totally unacceptable and biased.

The new buffet area..If you were trying to get away from a classy traditional atmosphere you succeeded.  I know Carrera Marble is the latest "look" but

it made you feel  as though you were in a cold  "commercial" kitchen.  Quite stark and uninviting.  Your ORIGINAL separation for food selections was both

inviting and classy.    It seemed the  daily selection of foods was repetitive.  On desert display:  boring selections with an industrial display.

SORRY 4 thumbs down Crying

A Real Dance Cruise by othellocast

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Queen Mary 2 / Destination: Caribbean

The ballroom dancing activities of the cruise are what my wife and I really like the most. The lengthy dancing sessions every night and the Tea Party on sea days are wonderful ways of knowing fellow cruisers and making new friends. Plus, these activities surely get rid of those extra calories from those wonderful foods and desserts. The dance floor is already big by any standard for a cruise ship, but in almost every night, this is being dwarfed by the volume of dance enthusiasts hitting the floor. Since we returned from this cruise, we have been recommending this cruise to a lot of our dance friends.Happy

Beautiful remodel; Food in serious decline again and customer care worst in the industry by bhb

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Queen Mary 2 / Destination: Transatlantic

We have done 16 crossings on the QM2. The recent refurbishing is wonderful. That, unfortunately, is about the nicest thing that can be said, other than the service staff who are friendly and attentive.

The  food is in decline, again, after having started to  turn around last Spring. Problem resolution by the purser's office is horrible. Hostile, disbelief, and stalling is the attitude and approach - for a crossing, in less than 6 days the problem  is resolved when the  passenger leaves  (a concistent experience since we started using them 7 years ago).

Their internet service is the  worst of all cruise lines we used and while  they will ultimately acknowledge that if pushed hard, they manifest no real concern or sense of  urgency to address. Their IT people are flat incompetent. In addition to the Internet, they have yet to balance the sound between channels on the TV. So, when surfing channels be careful. Many require volume levels between 15-20 to hear, but some of the channels, anything over 3 or 4 will damage one's ear drums. This problem has been reported numerous times with no action being taken. Finally, do not plan to watch anything on the TV during a crew exercise. The new TVs give them a  new toy and they stop all picture and sound when making an announcement  for the exercise - having  announced at the beginning of the exercise that the passengers should ignore the exercise and they do not wish to interrupt passenger enjoyment of their day and apologies for this interruption. The sound and picture interruption then continues for the next 20 to 30 minutes for 15-30 seconds at a time with every crew exercise annnouncement they make.

If we had another  option for a return crossing in the Spring or the outbound crossing in the Fall, we would have jumped on it a long  time ago. At least it is all over with in 7 days.

My expectations were high. The cruise went way beyond all of them. by LondonLover

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends

No mere "cruise", the trans-Atlantic crossing was exceptional in every way.  To those who say "why do you want to be stuck on a ship for 8 days", I answer that you won't run out of things to do but you will run out of time to do them all.

QM2 Trans-Atlantic by nfkura

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Queen Mary 2 / Destination: Transatlantic

The ship was lovely, the activities were excellent, we were very comfortable. However, the service was considerably less that what we anticipated. We had to change our table location after one night, and the beginnings of a second with grudging, mediocre service. After that, service was excellent, of course, with frequent visits from the maitre d. It should have been that way from the very beginning. Overall, when compared to our several experiences on Holland America (3-star mariners), we felt we had been better served on HAL than Cunard. Nevertheless, we WOULD consider another Cunard cruise if the price point and itinerary suited us, but not specifically for the experience of sailing with Cunard.

Cruising in Comfort and Style by Peggypowers47gmailcom

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Queen Mary 2 / Destination: Transatlantic

I love the Queen Mary 2. I enjoy sea days on cruises and the 6 days  crossing the Atlantic are chocked full of interesting things to do. I love their lecture series. The guest lecturers are very informative with interesting topics.  There is enough public space that I never felt crowded. I love the library and bookstore. The afternoon tea is not to be missed. Unfortunately, this trip I found that the bookstore has changed vendors. Gone are all of the Cunard memorbilia. On a previous crossing I bought a small World Atlas with Cunard emblazoned on the cover. The library and the Commidore Club offer seats facing large windows at the front of the ship. These were my favorite places to sit and relax.

Class and Elegance by markjonatut

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Queen Mary 2 / Destination: Transatlantic

We used the Queen Mary II as a mode of transportation to return from Europe back home to America. One-way airplane tickets from Europe were ridiculously expensive, and so the voyage for my spouse and I represented a cheaper and more classy option to return from Europe. The service was incredible. The staff are so nice and professional. The food was great. The people on the boat were also very classy. I never saw a single person complaining about anything. It was a much better experience than traveling by airplane. Everything was super clean

Great second half of our trip! by buckml67

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Queen Mary 2 / Destination: Transatlantic

We did a round trip on the QM2.  On the return, we enjoyed the different speakers, the additional show (Walk Like a Man) and all the activities available on the ship.  Cunard made it very very easy for us to get off in Southampton, enjoy several aspects of that city and then re-embark back onto the ship.  Once again, the service, the food, the activities, the shops all were terrific and we look forward to our next voyage on the QM2!

Transatlantic crossing by petedowns

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Queen Mary 2 / Destination: Transatlantic

We enjoy the lectures they are usually very topical and of interest.  the entertainment  is good as there is always a good variety.

The spa is also a favourite.with us, but it is needing to be updated also as some of the equipment needs more maintenance.  The variety of treatments available are good.

Service is always good. Certainly would recommend it to others.

This was our first time sailing from New York to Southampton and we did not like the time being changed at noon as it shortened our usable time during the day and throws your dining habits out of kilter.

Queen Mary 2 cruise by drjar

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Queen Mary 2 / Destination: North America

There were several things that were excellent: the ship, the ports of call, and the food. The staff behaviors could  be improved as we were always rushed at dinner and they almost never granted us right of way in the halls or King's Court. I would definitely recommend this cruise, or another on the QM2, to others.

Queen Mary Fall Foliage Cruise on St. Lawrence by rbergsieker

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Queen Mary 2 / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

Favorite parts:  orchestra and music program--great bands.  Also, dinner & evening dress requirements are very good--nice to see everyone dressed for the evening activities

Could change:  dining room experience--too long for dinner (over 2 hours)
