Review summary

Overall, this was one of the best cruises, and best trips ever. Alaska is awesome, and being able to visit a few ports to get a glimpse of the raw power of Alaska was truly worth it.

Embarkation

Simple, quick, very organized and pleasant

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Main dining room: The food as always is superb. Rhona and Jose our table attendants were fantastic. Jose knew our drink preferences and was very attentive to our needs. Rhona was a bright star at the end of a long day. Jamie’s Italian: the food was really good. The hard part about this experience was that there was too much food being served. We couldn’t finish it and the thought of it all being thrown out for just a taste was wasteful. I get wanting to have guests try everything but the excessiveness felt wrong. Our server, Willfredo was fantastic but I felt awful that we just didn’t wipe every plate clean.

Onboard Activities

Did not do these but the kids did and enjoyed it. We’re disappointed that the viewing arm was an additional fee - which really, you need to get more $$? But I guess it controls crowds too. Shopping: do jewelry and watch and perfume stores really make you $$? They seem excessive too. More destination based gift shops would be awesome, or just more interesting items available. Keeping inventory is a consideration with ship size, but how many watches and diamonds do people actually buy? The stores are not exciting. And if you had Kate Spade or Francis Valentine, I’d have probably maxed out my CCs. So I guess I answered my question- people buy frivolous on vacation. I happen to prefer KS bags not perfume or watches.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
I don’t know what sequins and feathers was but it wasn’t great. It just felt very exploitive of women’s bodies with no purposeful storyline

Children's Programs

My older niece enjoyed the teen club. My nephew did not partake as he does not socialize.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Rhonda and Jose in the main dining room as I said were fantastic. If it’s possible to request to sail when particular staff are onboard I’d want to know what ship they are on. Same for Oscar, our room attendant. He was so attentive too, kind when we would see him in the hallways. They all work so hard to make our experience wonderful and easy and I hope they know just how much we appreciate their hard work.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
This ships was beautiful. I’ve sailed on Harmony, Brilliance, Freedom, and Majesty, and Quantum was the best ship. Not too large, all amenities available, the staterooms were a great size. I loved it.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
I give a 5 because overall the amount of space to move, storage, size of bathroom and shower “tube” were all really fantastic. My ONLY complaint is the bed. Those mattresses are terrible. They have been terrible on every ship, but good gloria this time felt worse. They are too hard and unforgiving and make sleep impossible

Ship tip

Tip the staff well. They work extremely hard to make everything you do seem less and worry free. Let them know how much it’s appreciated

Ports of call

Seattle, Washington

No excursions but we did go a few days early to hang around and check out the city.

Ketchikan, Alaska

Did the lumberjack show with axe throwing. The show was delightful and the axe throwing was fun

Sitka, Alaska

We did the otters, with the reptile and bear centers after. Was a lot for one day. The excitement of the otters and seeing whales wiped us out that we had no energy or time to enjoy the other two centers. But it’s gorgeous and the excursion was excellent

Juneau, Alaska

Breathtaking. We booked an excursion through Delta Airlines Cruises and did whale watching with a small group and it was the best of the week! Saw so many whales and they had us all over the water finding them.

Disembarkation

Again, well organized- we did self assist, so we walked right off and the terminal and customs was seemless.
