Very disappointing. by ronnie48

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Ovation of the Seas / Destination: Other (Asia/Africa/Middle East)

Very unimpressed with the dining arrangements could not get a reservation all cruise in the three main dining rooms. The food in the Windjammer was well below the usual high standard. Most passengers were very disillusioned with Royal and first time cruisers said they would never travel with the company again. The food and dining arrangements let the company down I have done several cruises with Royal and this is the first one I have given a negative review.

‘Interesting’ cruise by julieNmike

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Ovation of the Seas / Destination: Asia & Indian Ocean

Fabulous ship and excellent itinerary which was Hong Kong, Fukuoka, Nagasaki, Kumamoto, Shimonoseki and back to Hong Kong, not as the app lists it. As noted, facilities on the ship are universally excellent and two many to list here. We felt that the food menu especially was compromised by the location and ethnicity of a proportion of the passengers which is very understandable, but this had a big impact on the lack of choice on the main dining rooms. We love trying new foods, but it all got very ‘samey’’ after the first few days. One casualty that we didn’t know about was Jonny Rockets, which has been replaced with a permanently empty noodle bar. I don’t eat many burgers, but a do enjoy a Jonny rocket or two - not at the same time... The lack of manners and poor treatment of staff was very evident all over the ship, primarily by passengers from a specific country. We were not at all happy to see this, but the brilliant staff dealt with it very well. Overall a very enjoyable cruise, with some aspects that were a little disappointing.

Ship: Ovation of the Seas

Just been on this beautiful snip, went on with mixed reviews as had heard bad things about over crowding and line ups etc. 4 of us went from Singapore to China . I’m a cruiser and this was cruise #8 BEST CRUISE EVER. Gorgeous ship, wonderful crew . So much to do. Well organised so you don’t suffer to badly from overcrowding. Loved it!!!

Fair-dining not good. by w9oh

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Ovation of the Seas / Destination: Asia & Indian Ocean

Skipping Saigon at last minute was a disappointment. Food quality not good-Windjammer constantly being reminded to eat and leave by loud announcements. Food in Dining room not much better. Food in Coastal Kitchen for suites was better. Pizza wasn't even good. Felt food was cheapest they could get their hands on and serve. Did not eat in speciality rest. as we feel we can eat anywhere on shore for prices charged so why do that on ship-maybe we have a strange attitude. No activity to discuss ports or history of ports on sea days. Lack of sea day activity except at the pool. Ship charged for about every activity-drink packages very expensive and internet at $20/day is very high. Feel like once on board you are being fleeced at every opportunity by RC. RC has really slipped-been on about 6 RC cruises and earlier ones good-will not do RC again.

Had NovoVirus for 48 hours!... by gavinsharp646

Sail date: /
Ship: Ovation of the Seas

Had NovoVirus for 48 hours! It was awful! Most of the hand sanitizer machines were empty which didn’t help! Guest Services were aware a lot of people on the ship were being affected. Public toilets you could hear a lot of people throwing up! Highly recommend you using your own toilet in your cabins! Last day of the cruise people in suits were going around spraying cabin rooms. Doesn’t look good the cruise company if you look up previous new paper articles. Will be sticking with Princess cruises!

I have just returned, having... by canalview

Sail date: /
Ship: Ovation of the Seas

I have just returned, having spent 27 nights on Ovation of the Sea,sailing from Sydney to New Zealand, and then onwards to Singapore, what a Ship !.The Master, Captain Henrik and his crew were excellent,The sailing to New Zealand had to be undertaken in reverse owing to weather conditions, this enabled us to proceed and avoid the effects of a cyclone.4 enjoyable Ports, climaxed in Fiordland when wet, which provides the most memorable Waterfalls. The sailing to Singapore, also provided a wonderful experience of passing the Barrier Reef. From Brisbane to Darwin,we were privaliged to have Reef Pilot,Captain Will Gamble onboard, his knowledge , commentary and lectures, were not only informative, but provided many unforgettable memories. The Entertainment and Food offering were of the highest level.Royal Caribbean,to me have provided an outstanding experience.I have now been privaliged to have sailed the Caribbean, through Europe and now Australasia, with Royal, and look forward to further offerings,The Explorer of the Sea is sailing from Sydney to Southampton in 2019,taking 41 nights, going to Singapore (15),Dubai(11), Barcelona (13), Southampton (7).Whilst not all is feasible, then I hope, some of them, happy and safe Cruising xxcc

Just came off last week... by RitaHem

Sail date: /
Ship: Ovation of the Seas

Just came off last week and have to say was the best cruise we have done so far. Staff were amazing and so welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. From bar staff to dining room to windjammer they were all wonderful. We had cabin no 7510 which is right at front of ship. Was very quiet and hardly felt any movement at all. The food was wonderful and plenty of variety. Due to her size never noticed any more crowds than other ships we have been on. So many spaces to lounge around or if you wanted activities there is plenty to choose from. If anyone is bored on this ship then they must be hard to please. Loved the ovation of the seas and will cruise her again anytime 😁

Ship: Ovation of the Seas

I have recently returned from 27 nights onboard Ovation of the Sea,sailing from Sydney to New Zealand and then onward to Singapore,The Master, Captain Henrik and all of his crew ,were outstanding. On the sailing to Singapore the ship had the expertise of Reef Pilot,Captain Will Gamble.Captain Gamble kept everyone informed ,with his knowledge of the Barrier Reef, with announcements and lectures. The sailing to New Zealand was undertaken in reverse owing to weather conditions, again thanks to Captain Henrik for his knowledge and application. I was able to remain in the same cabin, throughout, which was immaculate, the Entertainment and Food, was of a high standard, and further thanks should be given to Royal Caribbean for making our experience so enjoyable.Thank you also Cruise.co.uk,and in particular Ruth GALE,for arranging,Airport assistance,Hotels and Transfers.Happy Cruising xxxx

Fantastic Ovation of the Seas cruise. by jadegreeneyes

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Ovation of the Seas / Destination: South Pacific - Australia

I loved the whole cruise. The ship is unbelievable. So beautiful and very large. Felt overwhelmed the first day then settled in and found my way round quite quickly. If I go on another cruise, which I probably will it will only be on a Royal Carribbean ship. What a difference to other ships I have been on. Like chalk and Cheese. Highly recommend the RC Line.

Beautiful ship. The decor is... by adornau

Sail date: /
Ship: Ovation of the Seas

Beautiful ship. The decor is modern even the pub is a modern pub. The service was always very good except for the bottle shop the guy there never smiled and always seemed grumpy and everything you asked him was too much trouble for him. The food was a bit if a let down at the solarium and windjammer it was very bland and quite flavourless. The fresh baked bread was amazing though. The entertainment was very good and Pixels was nothing like we expected and was amazing it is a must. North star is incredible and the Ifly is also a must as it is an experience not to be missed. Captain Henrik was terrific he kept us up to date and was very thorough with his explanations. The biggest let down to the point we would not travel on Ovation again and that is getting off the ship. With the exception of one port it took over an hour lining up to get off the ship. The crew blamed customs at each port which was rubbish they just refused to have enough equipment being used to process us off quickly this can ruin your holidays when you miss travel connections because you are held up getting off the ship. When we arrived back in Sydney it took almost 90 minutes just to get off the ship but only 12 minutes to get through customs. Room service and the 4 main dining rooms service were all good. As for shopping on board leaves a bit to be desired not much in choice and varies very little from the start of the cruise to the end. Cabin was ALWAYS cleaned well and a pleasure to come back to. Overall the ship is great but how they deal with getting off the ship MUST be fixed or we wont sail on her again.
