Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We particularly enjoyed the specialty restaurants. The main dining room, for dinner, was good.

Onboard Activities

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The stage shows musical entertainment on Ovation of the Seas are enjoyable. There is a wide variety of stage shows and musicians playing throughout the ship. The Aerosmith cover band was amazing.

Children's Programs

We did not bring children.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Everyone from the ship's crew was wonderful, from the restaurant wait staff to the room steward. The cruise entertainment staff is fun.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Ovation of the Seas is large, with plenty of activities, stores, restaurants, and pool areas. They have a nice sized fitness center and running track. Everywhere we went was clean and sparkling.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
The cabin was comfortable but small. It was kept clean throughout our cruise. One good thing is that the cabin provides plenty of drawer and closet space for the 8 day trip. Also, we loved sitting on the balconey.

Ship tip

My advice for others is to book excursions, specialty dinners, spa services, and special activities early. They offer the ability to book through their app, but we found a few were already filled or sold out when we tried.

Ports of call

Ketchikan, Alaska

I highly recommend the Lumberjack Show. It is fun.

Skagway, Alaska

5 out of 5
We took an excursion that included learning about sled dogs, meeting sled dog puppies, panning for gold (along with learning about the Klondike gold rush), and an amazing train ride up the White Pass mountain.

CRUISE ENDICOTT ARM & DAWES GLACIER

4 out of 5
The ship cruised up to a glacier and turned both ways so everyone could get a good view. It is spectacular.

Juneau, Alaska

We went whale watching and then to a salmon bake, Both were excellent. The boat captain expertly piloted his ship so that we saw plenty of whales.

Victoria, British Columbia

3 out of 5
The port of call in Victoria lasts only from 5 to 9, and we had dinner reservations back at the ship at 8:45. Also, we had to walk about 2 miles to get from the dock to the downtown area with the bars and stores. No instruction was given about how to get from the ship to downtown, except to walk.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
We were able to make arrangements with Royal Caribbean to pre-check our bags and airline boarding passes. We put all of our bags outside our stateroom door on Thursday night, and did not see them again until they arrived back at our destination. Also, our bags were first to come out at baggage claim.
