Ovation of the Seas

7 Night Alaska Glacier (Seattle Roundtrip)

Sail date: October 01, 2021

Ship: Ovation of the Seas

Review summary

Last cruise to alaska for the cruise season. Many excursions no longer available and many stops already closed. We went just to see the glacier so this was no problem. Rain was expected so no surprises there - otherwise it was a nice time. Crew/Captain did their best as we were trying to avoid bad weather. Needed to be flexible but we are on a cruise so can’t complain πŸ˜€.

Embarkation

1 out of 5
Health protocols made the process slower. The number of reps seems low for the number of passengers.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
MDR was okay-menu repeats so specialty dining helps to mix things up. Had to wait to get into buffet due to social distancing.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Things booked up quick for complimentary times for the north star and sky diving. Pool and fitness center always available seats and equipment.

Ship tip

Book your dining time for the MDR quick. Get the first embarkation time slot - need to be on board to book entertainment and free activities.

Ports of call

Seattle, Washington

5 out of 5
Fun walkable city, lots of things to see and eat on the waterfront.

Juneau, Alaska

3 out of 5
Last boat of the season so less than half the stores open. Whale watch tour was poorly organized, rain made it more difficult. Not a great day but appreciated the short time there.

Skagway, Alaska

5 out of 5
Easy port to navigate on your own. Hiked the lower falls near then port. Town very small - mainly good for little shops.

Sitka, Alaska Did not visit port

Bad weather common here - rerouted to Kitchikan

CRUISE ENDICOTT ARM & DAWES GLACIER

4 out of 5
Limited time

Disembarkation

3 out of 5
Needed more port attendants.

Glad you enjoyed it. The cruise lines have been expanding the traditional late May - early September Alaska cruise season the past several years. It’s a risk with the weather with the later cruises.

I love your attitude! Each cruise can have challenges, things happen. You demonstrated that by being flexible and resetting your expectations (not lowering them) you can still end up with a great cruise experience. Glad you enjoyed your cruise adventure.

Appreciate your feedback. Good to know about things shutting down at the end of season. I never considered that. Glad you enjoyed your cruise in spite of that.
