Review summary

Overall a great cruise. Only fault was that on the two days when the entertainment staff ran the dancing in the evening instead of the dancing teachers they were not strict about the two ballroom/Latin two sequence rule and allowed the sequence dancers to take over at the expense of the ballroom dancers. I would go on Oceana again as long as it was from Southampton.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Really fast embarkation, we’d checked in online.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
As usual the food was outstanding. We treated ourselves to Cafe Jardin on Valentine’s Day and the menu was excellent. We don’t usually use speciality restaurants as beach house is too casual for us and Sindhu is out of the question as I don’t like anything peppery never mind spicy but really enjoyed Cafe Jardin. In fact we went twice.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Deck quoits and shuffleboard clashed with dancing classes so we did the deck quoits in the mornings and the ballroom dancing lessons in the afternoons. Teachers were excellent as usual.

Entertainment

We didn’t go to any of the shows etc. Not into cabarets and I personally don’t like soprano singers so we avoid the headliners shows. Not into magic either. No well known comedians that tempted us.

Children's Programs

No children with us.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Waiters in MDR were fantastic as usual. Steward was difficult to catch because they have so many cabins to do but we managed to ask for ice on the 3rd evening and it was then supplied every night. Would have been 5* but stewards have more to do nowadays so didn’t always get time for a coffee before leaving the dining room. We like to be out by 7.30 to get a nice seat in the ballroom for the evening.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Beautiful traditional ship. Always someone painting or varnishing somewhere.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The cabin was extremely comfortable. Was a bit tight as a queen bed so we asked the steward to change it to twin beds and then there was plenty room. Lots of wardrobe space.

Ship tip

Avoid the buffet. Try cafe Jardin instead at breakfast or lunchtime.

Ports of call

Cadiz (Spain)

5 out of 5
Hadn’t been here for many years.

Lisbon, Portugal

5 out of 5
Dropped off at the square. First thing was the custard tart shop. Then el Corte Ingles. When we got back to the square another coffee and custard tart before boarding the shuttle bus.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
Because of storm Dennis we were very late leaving the ship. After 2.30. This meant we didn’t get back to Edinburgh till after 1am. This meant we were too late to get our car keys so had to stay the night in Edinburgh.
