Our transatlantic cruise on Oasis of the Seas was great. We saw many historic buildings and some beautiful nature.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Embarkation was quick and easy. We arrived at our scheduled time and had no wait to board. Since the ship was fresh out of drydock, our rooms were ready and we could drop our luggage.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
Our first four days were in ports, so we had to get an early breakfast to be ready to get off of the ship when it arrived. We had breakfast in the Solarium Bistro those mornings. The food was standard buffet food and adequate. After our port days were done we fell into the habit of having breakfast at Johnny Rockets. The food was very good, even if the service was a little slow. We had lunch at a variety of places and all were OK, expect our specialty dining days. The food was always excellent in the specialty restaurants. We went to Chops Grille, Izumi Sushi and Giovanni's Table. We also ate at Johnny Rockets one day for lunch and it was good as well, but not as good as the other specialty restaurants. We ate dinner frequently in the Main Dining Room and it was always OK, not great, but adequate. The Windjammer buffet was also OK. I had pre-purchased a soft drink package. It was not worth the cost. The self-service machines were often out of any diet drinks, if they worked at all. The bar tenders would tell you to go to the machine to get your drink, but would eventually fill your cup if you let them know that the machine was not working. It was a big hassle for sure. I won't do that again on RC.
Onboard Activities
5 out of 5
We rode the carousel, slid down the Ultimate Abyss and walked on the track. Some in our party did the zipline. All activities were enjoyed.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
We enjoyed the live music on the ship, but at times to was far too loud. It was difficult to hear those you were sitting with if the music was playing, but the music was good. We went to the ice show, which was enjoyable. The Aqua 80 show was very good, but had to be cancelled several times due to the weather. The weather was not good for pool days or water slides. We did not go to see Cats as we were not really interested in that show and others said that it was not enjoyable.
Service and Staff
4 out of 5
Most of the wait staff and service personnel were good. There was the previous mention of the bartenders not wanting to deal with the soda package, but everyone else was good. Our room steward did not give us the option of having our room cleaned in the morning, so our room was not serviced until the evening. I didn't care for that, but was not given a choice. We still enjoyed our vacation - that was not a deal-breaker.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
I love having sufficient wash stations outside of the buffets! Even with it's massive size, the ship was reasonable easy to find your way after a day or two.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
We opted for an ocean view balcony since we had so many sea days. We liked the layout of the cabin and it was very quiet. The bed was comfortable and we liked having the sofa.
We flew into Barcelona four days prior to our cruise. We had a great experience here and we hit most of the highlights. Most days we had around 20,000 steps at the end of the day. We booked tours through Viator and we were very satisfied with everything. We took in a Flamenco show, visited Park Guell and La Sagrada Familia and we did a HOHO tour on our final full day. Our hotel was off of La Rambla and was very clean and very convenient (TOC Ramblas). We visited La Boqueria several times since it was very close to our hotel.
On this date we took our tour through Spain Day Tours and we were very satisfied. We saw so many old buildings and beautiful sights. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and passionate about her country.
We took a tour through Spain Day Tours at this port as well. We saw ancient Roman ruins and many historical buildings. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about the history of the area.
We took a tour through Spain Day Tours in Cartagena. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about the area and she provided excellent suggestions for places to eat.
Unfortunately our tour in Malaga through Spain Day Tours was not able to go on as booked due to a transportation worker strike. We were able to take a walking tour instead (and were refunded the difference in the cost), but we were so looking forward to seeing Alhambra! The tour guide was good in this port as well, but by this time we had seen many old buildings and the novelty was wearing out.
It's Nassau, so what can you say. After 8 sea days were were happy to get off of the ship to walk around a little. We didn't really do anything here aside from walking through a few shops.
After our cruise we spend two additional days in Fort Lauderdale. We took the opportunity to get our clothes washed before returning home and we visited Hugh Taylor Birch State Park. We enjoyed walking around the park and seeing the nature. We got a golfcart tour from a volunteer that was nice. We got to see some of the Gopher Tortoises and Ranger Marc shared his love for reptiles with us.
