Norwegian Sun

7 Night Alaska & Sawyer Glacier (Seattle Roundtrip)

Sail date: July 29, 2006

Ship: Norwegian Sun

Cabin type: Oceanview

Traveled as: Couple

Review summary

Every aspect of the ship's day had an added price tag including bingo ($45) and soft drinks ($42 for the week). These add-ons were excessive considering that 15% tip was also included in every transaction as well as $10 per day added on for gratuities. Before every show, the social staff came around with raffle tickets. NCL must be in bad financial shape. One had the feeling of constantly being "nickle and dimed'. An average bill for these extras easily ran into $500 or more not including ground excursions. Figure twice the price of the cruise with these hidden costs.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
While the food was good, it was not five or even four star. The quality has gone down.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The shows were good but the other activities were just so so.

The bathroom looked liked a portosan.

Ports of call

Ketchikan, Alaska

Without expensive ground excursions (over $100) all one had was souvenir shops.

Juneau, Alaska

Mendenhall Glacier was notable.

Prince Rupert, British Columbia

This stop was a joke! I think NCL only used it to be eligible for casino gaming on board. There was nothing worth seeing.

Skagway, Alaska

More shops unless you were a kid who could do strenuous excercise

Pros: Attitude of staff was friendly and professional

Cons: Nickle and diming of NCL's ancillary income opportunities
