Disappointed trip by carolkc53

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We've taken many cruises before and this was such a disappointment.  The choices at dinner were slim and when we got food it wa over salted or over cooked and cold.  When we went to a restaurant for a prime rib dinner, they had changed the location without telling anyone so we lost out on that.   The excursion choices were disappointing also.  Pool was small. Not sure I will take a Norwegian again.

Nice Getaway by BarbandTom

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We were upgraded to a room with a balcony. It shocked us. We could hardly believe that this nice big room was ours. The ports of  call were very interesting.  We especially enjoyed the cave tubing in Belize. The entertainment on board was very impressive. Amazing hypnotist. Musical nights were just like being on Broadway. Very professionally done. Service was excellent in the dining rooms, with the last night as the only exception. Food was good. ..too good, for the most part. Only complaints,  drinks were way overpriced, as we're shore excursions. We haven't taken a cruise for 18 years, so probably don't remember this from our last one. All in all, we would go again in a heartbeat. Thanks so much.

Nice time but not as fancy as the newer or bigger ships by Cruiser940

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This ship does not have all the bells and whistles of the newer and larger ships.  The Cons:   The headliner shows did not hold a candle to the 8 cruises I have been on.  The same comedian was at 3 of the big nightly performances.  The bingo games were very expensive and the pay off was weak.  I bought into the all inclusive alcohol program only to find out they only offered one type of bad Chardonnay.   Meridian.  Poor quality.  Also, not enough pool seating.   There were two fancy pool slides.  One was broken the entire cruise. The balcony guard rail outside my cabin was not secure. Room 10128.  Assistant cruise director had a heavy accent which was tough to understand.  The Newlywed game was fun but you couldn't see the contestants.  Bring in some high chairs next time! The gift shops were over priced.  Get some stores with costume jewelry at an affordable price.   PRO's:   The Spa was very nice. Rebecca gave me a wonderful head to toe experience. Everyone who performed a service was very good and professional.  Getting on and off the ship was easy.  I loved the towel art in the rooms each night. Thank you for offering a sugar free dessert option.  The "Washie-Washie gals  were amazing.

A Star of a cruise! by Cruiser446

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We especially enjoyed the variety of dining venues.  We ate in Cagneys, LeBistro and La Cucina 5 nights and in O'Sheehans the other 2 nights of the 7 night cruise.  The food was very good and the service was also good,  The ship is older but was well maintained and clean.  The weather was fabulous and we truly enjoyed the beverage package.  Our trip was relaxing and most enjoyable.

Another great cruise with Noregian by trinabensonmsncom

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We found that everything was great on this cruise. Food, entertainment, lodging, and excursion's were all wonderful. On our last cruise we did not have the drink package but this time we did, now every cruise that we do we will always make sure we have it. Not big drinkers but it was so nice to be able to order what ever we wanted and not have to worry about cost. Norwegian is free style dining which means you can eat when ever you want. The food was wonderful. We are already booked for next year.

Paradise revisited by susanbrower123

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We just returned from a week in Paradise.  Norwegian Star was the bomb!  For my 11th cruise we selected NCL since it was visiting a wide range of central american cities and we were not disappointed.  Honduras was a tropical jungle.  Primitive but fun and functional.  My son ziplined and thoroughly enjoyed it.  In Belize we tubed into the underground caverns which is a must do.  (Despite the 3 mile hike though the rainforest.) It was amazing.  Costa Maya we went to the Mayan ruins at Chochoban.  We viewed the 5th rising of the pyramid in this village which of itself was remarkable but realization that this was a way of life for 5 different groups of Mayan people was earthshaking.  The massiveness of the pyramid and the uniformity to hand carved blocks for construction not to mention the feat of getting the 200 ft. pyramid built was simply awesome.  Cozumel being the most commercialized of the ports was still the shopping mecca of the Yucatan.

The rooms were slightly cramped but adequate.  June our room steward was awesome. Dining was delightful.  The dining room held all the ambiance of fine dining and the buffet was also a good alternative.  The waiters on the pool deck with having the unlimited drink package were not so attentive as usual but we managed.  All in all, it was wonderful but I realize now why I usually book RCCL.

Toms cruise by ktucker05

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Nice ship and staff. Had balcony room. Toilet in room failed to work properly for the entire 7 day trip, complained to staff, they supposedly repaired it but never flushed normally after use. Food was good in formal resturaunt but not at buffet. No free lobster nite anymore with NCL. Did not realize better food in the pay resturaunts. They charged $13.50 each per day for tips, I formally made complaint last day and management waived fee for all problems with out bathroom toilet.

Enjoyed our Cruise by brianuwhite

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We have sailed on many cruise lines but this was the first time on Norwegian and we had a great time, ports were wonderful even though we would have liked to go to the new port that isn't open in Belize. Sailing out of Tampa was a breeze and a really good port, going out of the Tampa bay was really cool.

Outstanding cruise by jgib2711

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This was a wonderful cruise because the ship was beautiful, the service was first class and the food was very good.  With the open seating in the restaurant, we could decide when we wanted to have dinner.  We never had to wait for a table, we did not have to share a table with others unless we wanted, and the menu offered a varied assortment of entrees.  The shows were a nice mix of entertainment and the performers were first class.  Loved this cruise.

Wonderful Cruise Experience by mtdirico

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This was my 2 nd cruise with Norweigan.  It was a wonderful cruise from start to finish.  Wonderful food, incredible excursions and great staff.  I enjoyed the entertainment and the various bands featured on the ship.  It was a great value and I plan to cruise with Norweigan again.  My only complaint and the reason I didn't give it a full five stars was the check in process despite picking our check in time and being Latitude members with priority check in, it took over an hour to check in and board the ship.  I never experienced such a wait to check in especially in a priority line I can only imagine the wait for those who were in a regular line.

Not very Happy by rickbutera

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Food was pretty poor cafeteria, if you like to eat that stuff. Specialty restaurants weren't bad but of course you pay extra for them. Mini Suite we had was terrible from a noise standpoint. We were driven from our room on many occasions from the noise above us - Pool Parties were extremely "over the top" loud.

If you like to drink, yell & scream, jump up & down and get your eardrums blown out - this is the cruise for you!

first and last by glh86

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

boarding boat was pretty simple. the guys at the entrance that take your luggage to load on boat very rude and wont take it until they get their tip they just stand there and a couple dollars is not enough to get them to move. after that check in was very smooth.we boarded the boat and went to 12th floor to get a drink and take some pictures. went to bar and simply asked for a cranberry, pinapple and coconut rum drink and bar tender says no cocnut rum, really only basic rum.. so we tied some other drinks that were specials and it was ok especially if you like cheap taquila and jalapeno taquila. We were able to get to our rooms around 3:30 and luggage arrived a couple hours later.rooms were nice and adequate. I was expecting to have real good food aboard the ship. it would have been better if they just had a golden corral and a pizza hut on board of coarse unless you want to go to there upscale restaurants and pay even more for dinner. The buffet area where you eat most is like eating in a cafeteria style tables and chairs just like a cafeteria, very basic and cheap. There main dinning rooms that are included were very slow service and really did not matter which one you went to the Aqua or the Versailes the food was the same. very small portions and they had small selection. to me best thing was mahi-mahi about a 4 oz piece, sirloin steak about a 7oz portion and prime rib about 1oz pieces, it is cut as thin as roast beef and two slices.  Breakfast was good pretty good selection lunchs were ok best food was at the pool side at about 12 to 2 when they fired up the grills and cooke burgers and sausage and dogs, sometimes they also cooked some pasta and with shrimp..  what seafood OMG you would think they would have plenty of seafood to eat only seafood you get is codfish nand shrimp in dishs. No crab legs, lobster, squid, octopus, tuna or any other fish. boat had pretty good entertainment and decent sized casino. my favorite place to go to was the okeefs restaurant bar. had a good view overlooked glass staircase or outside view and had a real good Reuben sandwich. there hot wings were ketchup base sauce with a little Tabasco for heat. over all very unhappy with the quality of food and service.in addition to the couple grand for the cruise make sure you take another grand for excursions or you will be bored to death on boat unless you like to sleep alot. The best staff member we came across was our room steward. the most friendly and overall  had the best attitude. he made the beds in the morning and turned them down for you at night changed all towels and kept cabin clean and neat. He also made towel animals every night each one different. that always put a smile on our faces when getting back to room for the night.

Lovely time by barrythb

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The cost was right.  The only thing keeping me from giving it 5 stars is that we went to Belize City.  What a terrible location.  I look forward to Norwegian opening there new privet island - it will make the waters of Belize a thing I want to see.  Otherwise, I am avoiding this destination.

First time on NCL - won't be our last! by mmr123

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

WE were very pleased with every aspect of our NCL cruise.  The food was far superior to other lines we have cruised with.  Only disappointment was our cabin smelling of smoke every day from 5 pm throughout early morning hours.  WE reported on several times.  Officials came in, agreed with our complaint - wiped down walls and sprayed deodorizer.  Was coming from location above our cabin.

Older ship (Star) by johnburtonwhs61

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Ship was in good condition, food in speciality restaurants very good, staff friendly and helpful.  Balcony cabin was very small.  Shower was big compared to other cruise lines, which was nice. Toilet area extrembly small.  Plenty of storage.  Cost of this 7-day western cruise was expensive; I waited too long to book it.  Theater was very uncomfortable due to air-boxes attached to back of every seat.  Tall people's knees were crowded.

Left us Hanging by dfstokes

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

On the last day in Mexico all excursions were cancelled due to weather which can happen, however no effort was made to inform us prior to our noon meeting time. Consequently we wasted a day in Mexico. In addition we had a couple in our group with a pregnant wife. When she cancelled due to the Zika virus rampant at several of our destinations the trip insurance would not reimburse the cost of the trip. Seriously, the US government urged caution, her doctor forbid it, and the governor of Fla had declared a health state of emergency...denied by the travel insurance company...what good is the insurance?

7 Day Western Caribbean - Norwegian Star by kathrynahansen

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Overall a great experience -- the ship had good food and the shows were always entertaining at night. I think there could be more areas that are adults only. The kids pool is not utilized as all the kids come to the main pool making it hard for adults to use that pool. My biggest complaint, however, came with disembarking at the ports. There was very little direction from staff and there seemed to be no organization -- people would crowd in the hallways without forming in lines. Those that had reservations for excursions were often late because it would sometimes take 40 minutes to get off the boat. I would suggest allowing people with excursions to get off first (perhaps a 30 min. head start) and then allowing the rest of the boat to follow. Also need more cruise staff around to organize and manage the lines...not just placing one person at the bottom of the staircase. Other than that the cruise was great! Just bring your patience if you are disembarking right as the ship ports.
