Being on Deck 11 was a nightmare that ruined what could have been a great experience. Dining was great, shows were great, drink service average, excursions average quality, ports average since a lot of the same settings ... set up for the cruise ships, but the cabin experience on Deck 11 was a terrible with the Deck 12 noise that lasted throughout the night.
Embarkation
2 out of 5
Long lines and came late to avoid but did not seem to have a process for the number of people ... how about setting times?
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
Dining was high quality although specialty dining had limited serving sizes ... overall great experience.
Onboard Activities
2 out of 5
Fitness center was good for a ship and pools were crowded.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
Great variety and a good job with the talent in this type of venue.
Service and Staff
4 out of 5
Guest Services was limited in providing help and otherwise very solid although felt like being sold to all of the time. Pictures likely needs to determine a new approach and pricing in the digital age.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
Always on top of cleanliness so no issues there. Ship was full so not a lot of open spaces for times like breakfast. Design of Decks 11 with Deck 12 above leaves a lot to be desired.
Cabin / Stateroom
1 out of 5
Size and cleanliness were fine. The noise from Deck 12 was constant and throughout the night. Felt like we were below the kitchen ... hearing machines running, chairs dragging, items being dropped in the floor in the late evening or early morning hours ... paid a premium to be on a high deck but would have rather been on Deck 4. Limited opportunity for any real rest on a vacation turned a positive experience into a very negative experience. Our understanding is the Deck 12 carpet had recently been replaced by linoleum to the detriment of Deck 11 passengers.
Ship tip
Great ship with many amenities just avaoid staying on Deck 11 and you should have a positive experience.
By this time another port set back in time and an excursion to see the same things as other excursions ... they all have their stories but too similar in approach.
Thanks for the info and "Heads Up" about Deck 11 Staterooms. Spouse and I are sailing on the Norwegian Star out of LA (US) on Jan 4th, and like you, we are paying a premium for an upper deck, and you guessed it---we are on Deck 11. This is our first major cruise and we want it to be relaxing and pleasant, as its for celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniversary, and we really want to enjoy ourselves.
On this ship, which decks would y'all reccommend?? We are using a travel agency (AAA), and Norwegian in Miami (US HQ), per their policy, will not talk directly to passengers using a 3rd party travel agency to answer any questions or concerns we may have. Again, Thanks for sharing this useful info/tip.
Same here... stayed three nights on Deck 11, then moved to Deck 10. The interior designer who came up with the idea to put Linoleum on top of a cabin floor should be thrown over board. It's unacceptable and the staff at the service desk did not show understanding at all until we threatened to talk to the hotel director, Vitor.
We had exactly the same experience as you the week before last and we were on Deck 10! We constantly heard the chairs from the buffet on Deck 12 scraping the floor from early in the morning until late at night! We kept saying it must been even worse for those on Deck 11! 🙁
We always book through our travel agent. She looks at the deck plans of the ship to know what will be below us and on top. Always gets us a good cabin. She's great.
