Review summary

I really enjoyed the ports. Each port was beautiful and the people were very friend. The embarkation process sucked but would have been better if everyone had their passports. The entertainment on board should have been all throughout the day and the food was pretty terrible. There wasn't much for anyone to do on the voaf that didn't require us to spend more money. This ship needs a major upgrade.

Embarkation

This was the most horrible experience I've ever had. Our arrival time for check in was 9:30am and they didn't even open the doors until 10:30. Many peoe there had arrival times of 10:30 or later and were able to check in before us. That was frustrating. Then, at the check in counter, we had birth certificates for the kids as passports weren't required. We spent an hour at the counter because 4 different people couldn't figure out how to enter them. Then after an hour they said they would just notify security on the boat that there were issues with birth certificates. So after an hour at the check in counter, people were clapping as we walked off. The hold up wasn't on our end, it was on the cruise line. I was very embarrassed with everyone clapping and whistling. Then after that, we got through security and were group 3! Which was crazy because again, our arrival time was 9:30. So people who had later check in times were boarded before us. Once we we're finally able to board, we had to give our cards to security and wouldn't you know, the kids cards didn't work. They were asking us to leave the ship and I obviously refused. I explained the issues with the birth certificates and they had to call someone. We stood there for 30 minutes, holding up another line. They finally blocked off the line we were in and made everyone get in the other line. Once this was cleared up we were finally able to go find our rooms. This was a horrible check in, especially considering it was our first cruise. We now know to only have passports.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
I wish the food and drinks were on separate grading scales because the drinks were absolutely amazing and there were 2 exceptional servers who we tipped out heavily. The food was horrible. Even the food in the main dinning rooms was gross. For a whole week, my kids basically ate French fries, cheeseburgers and ice cream. We did not try any of the speciality dinning. The food could have definitely been better.

Versailles Main Dining Room

3 out of 5

I am only giving this 3 stars because there were some servers who went the extra mile and learned my great nieces name. The food here really sucked. The only things on the menu that I could actually eat was the Cesar salad and the beef and barley soup.

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
This ship had the bare basics and we were pretty bored while on the ship. This boat needs a major renovation. There really wasn't much for the adults to do with the exception of paying for activities like Bingo.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The entertainment was okay. We didn't spend much time in there due to the show times and seating. The performers that played on deck 12 were pretty good. The play times were way too short. This was a vacation but it didn't really feel like it. They played a radio most of the time. We wanted and expected live entertainment all day. Other passengers were complaining of this too. We were a party of 14 people and we had 5 rooms between all of us. Everyone else in my party have cruised multiple times before but this was the first time on norweigan and they said it would be their last.

Children's Programs

1 out of 5
My teens were pretty disappointed in the teen room. They spent most of their time at the basketball court. This ship really needed more things for everyone to do.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
I'm rating a 5 for this category based on 2 separate servers. Yulia and Alex were freaking awesome! They remembered our names and our drinks. That's quite impressive as were were a group of 14. They also made great drink suggestions and we couldn't have had better service than what we got from these two. I don't know what they get paid but those two deserve some recognition and a raise.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The boat was fairly clean most of the time.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Our cabins were extremely clean every day. Our steward was Ricardo and he was awesome! We tipped him out heavily as well as our favorite servers.

Ship tip

I would not recommend a cabin at the front of the ship. The last day heading back was so rough that I experienced severe sea sickness. Also, the smoking deck is on 12, as well as the buffet and swimming pole. I smoke so I watched a lot of people come outside and have to walk through the smokers area. If this is an issue for you, I wouldn't recommend a room on deck 12.

Ports of call

San Pedro (Los Angeles), California Did not visit port

We only went through the embarkation process here.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

Zip lining was amazing and so was our driver. There are so any thing gs to see and do here. They even have a zoo by one of the tequila places. Our driver took us to a place that not everyone knows about. It was awesome.

Mazatlan, Mexico

5 out of 5
We lucked out with another great driver here. The tour was awesome and the shopping was fabulous.

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

5 out of 5
I only gave 5 stars because it was beautiful here. Unfortunately we only had a few hours on shore once we got off the boat. I would recommend getting the tender tickets for early in the morning. They also have water tacos with ladders so you don't have a 3-4 jump on or off the boat. This port should be all day long for everyone to enjoy the beach. The kids went parasailing here and then the boat driver took them on a free whale watch. They got to see so many whales, dolphins and seals.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
This process was great compared to the embarkation. The only downside was you couldn't hear the announcements from the smoking area.

It had a major upgrade 2018. Never rode a water taco. I wonder why people go on a Cruise to relax and then whine because there is nothing to do. Can't people read anymore?

Travel with passports (as all should) and your biggest gripe would not exist!
