Review summary

We traveled as a couple with another couple who are good friends of ours. We had an amazing time, we just wished there were longer port times to get things in--especially in Dubrovnik, Croatia. Again, the ship is beautiful, but we kept saying to ourselves that it would have been more relaxing if it had been an adults only ship, or that the ship was larger and had more spaces that allowed for kids and families to enjoy along with those of us adults who wanted some space to ourselves. We have kids of our own, but will usually take them on cruises that are larger so there is more for them to do. Other than that, the ship is beautiful and we still had a lovely time.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

Yum! Get the speciality dining package and make sure you book your dining times early for good spots!!

Onboard Activities

The NCL Star was somewhat relaxing, but we enjoyed our private balcony most of the time due to crowding in pools with kids. In saying that, we were glad we didn't have our own kids with us on this trip--this ship isn't set up in the same way as their larger ships like the Escape or Breakaway, as it is much smaller. I think NCL might need to begin looking into catering these smaller ships to adults only...and push the larger ships for families, etc....just a thought!! The pools were too over-run with kids and there wasn't any space for "adults only" to enjoy.

Entertainment

All the shows were wonderful and the theatre was huge. Excellent!!

Children's Programs

We left our kiddos home!

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Everyone was friendly, with exception of finance officer at the end of trip when I had a security lock on my credit card and wasn't able to get it sorted right away for her. Other than that, everyone else was extremely friendly!

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Everything was clean and maintained.

Cabin / Stateroom

The size, space, and balcony was wonderful!!

Ship tip

Wait until the kids are at least in their teens before taking them on a international cruise with NCL Star. OR look for NCL ships that have the rock climbing, ropes courses, larger pool areas, etc...

Ports of call

Venice, Italy

Loved Venice immensely! Will definitely return here. Did not do excursions as we arrived 2 days prior to sailing. Just explored and enjoyed the city on our own!!

Kotor, Montenegro

Was beautiful but HOT!! Did the Climb the City Walls excursion. It was physically taxing on us. LOTS of steps (very steep) to climb, so be in good shape. Views were amazing though!!

Corfu, Greece

Did the 4x4 excursion---so much fun and highly recommended!! You get to explore the island with a guide, but drive your own jeep (manual) and get to see so much!!

Santorini, Greece

Did the beach transfer, which was fun. Santorini is so beautiful. Just wish we had more time in port to explore!

Mykonos, Greece

A favorite for sure! Wanted more time in port here too!! Did not do an excursion, which we are glad we didn't--because we explored and shopped on our own and just enjoyed everything. Lots of fun.

Dubrovnik, Croatia

Did the Game of Thrones excursion (a MUST!!) and so glad we did. BUT, NCL---people need longer port times. There just wasn't enough time to see the things we wanted to see and this was the BEST port. 8am-12noon is NOT enough time for this amazing city.

Disembarkation

Easy enough!!
