NCL nickel & dime

Sail Date: January 27, 2008

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Balcony

NCL may have invented freestyle cruising, but not everything is free!
The fares may be very competitive, but once you begin to add up all the extra charges for the specialty restaurants it becomes pricey. I would rather have a choice of restaurants and pay a little more in the overall cabin price, then be nickel & dimed to death.
As for entertainment, there were very few shows on board my sailing. And because of an outbreak of "the virus" there was no self service and lots of service people standing at each and every restaurant and in every elevator and public space with antibacterial spray. Does not give one a good feeling. Consequently to get a cup of coffee in the morning meant standing on line. This was NOT a holiday sailing and even so, it was a long wait. The buffet was horrible. It was really a cafeteria. Went once and never went back.

Pros: The itinerary

Cons: Extra charges

Recommends Norwegian Star? No.

Zihuatanejo/Ixtapa, Mexico
Nice beach.
Acapulco, Mexico
Not what it used to be. The divers were a wonderful treat. The bus tour of Acapulco showed decay and it looked almost seedy.
Don't Miss: Divers, Princess Hotel & Mayan Palace

Nice beach.
Cabo San Lucas, Mexico
See the arches - the boat ride was very nice, but you did not get that close. Should tell NCL to skip the photographer on board. A big pain.

Made my own arrangements with a "taxi" to drive us to town and wait for us. Did shopping, very lovely old world town. Had lunch at a top notch resort, but was mislead by the taxi driver as to how much it would cost to use the facility for the day. Need to get that straight up front and also he went too far for the amount of time we had available.
