Review summary

This was a dream itinerary and the Spirit did not disappoint. The port of calls were interesting and the northern ports were outstanding and the people seemed to appreciate our visiting their beautiful countries. One shop in Portland mentioned that they only have been open for cruise ships for three years and the Spirit was the largest ship to date. The NCL is the oldest ship in Norwegian fleet but they have managed to keep it fresh mostly up to date. The decor is a little strange as it has an oriental bent but since it originally sailed in Asia it makes more sense. This ship is scheduled to have a 5 week refit in the spring and I would guess this issue would be addressed as well as the limited power outlets in the cabins.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Quick and easy

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The main dinning room had as good food as did the specialty restaurants.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Due to cool weather and daily port calls little activity on main deck

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Excellent entertainment all of the shows were among the best I have seen on Norwegian ships.

Children's Programs

Did not have ant children on board

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Excellent cabin attendant and the wait staff was attentive and did not disappoint.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Being a small ship it was possible to use the stairs throughout the cruise. our cabin was midships on deck 9 and as a result everything was within 3 decks. I liked the stage in the aft made for a bigger stage and better shows.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Serviceable, two major problems, first only one 120 volt plug and no USB ports so charging devices was problematic. Also they only had MSNBC for a US news outlet. What a disappointment that they eliminated FOX news.

Ship tip

Bars a small and most onboard activities are limited in number of people who can participate
