First cruise and won't be the last! by rannykem

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

Since this was our first cruise we weren't sure what to expect but we were very happy. It didn't have the elegance of the ships seen on TV but it was very nice. Everything was clean and the crew made sure if you needed anything, anytime, you got it. My husband told our stewardess, Bianca, that I loved the towel animals she made. That evening when we came in, we had an elephant, mouse and bulldog with sunglasses on the bed. My favorite would have to be the monkey hanging from the ceiling! We are already planning another cruise for Alaska with Norwegian!

Had a great time. by lhibb44

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

Ship is beginning to show her age. Smells in passage-ways were sometimes not so great. Though information in the suite stated a sharps container would be provided if we called guest services... I ended up going to get it. When we entered our suite it was made up as a queen bed... Which is what we wanted... But when we went out and came back it was reconfigured as twin beds. When I called down to have it put back, the woman, whom I never spoke to insisted I had called down and told them I wanted it changed??!! I told her I hadn't and she argued with me saying I did. Not a great way to start a cruise. Other than that, it was a fine cruise.

Norwegian Sky by NicoleKcruiser

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

This was a great first cruise, we booked last minute (about a week and a half out) and got a great deal. The crew was amazing, especially our room steward. I would often take a short nap before dinner and would come back to the bed remade in the hour or two I was gone. My biggest complaint was the number of children who were present at adults only events such as the "Newly Wed" game. Although it was mostly the fault of irresponsible parents, some of which even volunteered to be in the show and tried to pawn there unsupervised 2 and 5 year olds onto strangers in the crowd, I felt that the cruise line should have better enforced the age restrictions. Overall, this is a great beginners cruise.

The Sky was our first... by NicoleKCruiserr

Sail date: /
Ship: Norwegian Sky

The Sky was our first cruise and it was such a great time. I’ve been on 5 cruises since the Sky and the amazing service we received on the Sky still sticks out. It’s an older, smaller ship but the crew made sure you never even knew it. We had a great time.

Loved it ! by mitzierick

Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

First cruise.  Had a blast.  We are a couple, 40's, traveling with no kids in a mid-balcony.  Way to much to do onboard, and the excursions were fun.

Depart day - found our contact at the airport very easily.  Bus ride was only 10-15 minutes.  Arrived at the pier around 2:00.  Took 30 minutes to get thru checkin, but it was easy living from there.  We walked onto the ship, found the 10th floor, and as we walked out of the elevator, the announcement said all rooms were ready.  We found our luggage very easily.  Changed clothes and started exploring.

Day 1 - Freeport.  Not allot to do, but WE WERE ON VACATION !  Found a nice patch of sand on Tanio beach and stretched out.  Tony Macaroni's Conch Burgers are the bomb!  We walked the beach, made a couple friends, and spent a few dollars with the merchants.  Back on the ship by 3:00, a quick nap, and it was time to change for Cagney's Steak House.... to die for!  We asked for a table with a view and got a great one.  Excellent service.  Steaks were right on.  Well worth a few extra dollars.  Back to the stateroom to change and head to deck 12.  Salt water pools were SO much better than chlorine.  Pina Coladas were only $8.  Finished the night in the piano bar.

Day 2 - Nassau.  Breakfast off the back of the ship as we were docking.  Someone ordered perfect weather.  We left the ship around 9:30, walked a good 1/2 mile to a smaller boat waiting to take us to Blue Lagoon Island.  The ride thru the harbor and out to see was about 30 minutes, but the views along the way were wonderful.  Million-dollar yachts, multi-million dollar homes.  We arrived at the island and found it amazing.  We avoided the dolphin encounter as most of the reviews we read had suggested.  But the lagoon was wonderful, floating armchairs were part of the package, as was lunch (hamburger or chicken, with a salad and fruit drink).  The music was great, the drinks were perfect, and we were there about 5 hours before it was time to head back.  Had a chance to shat with one of the workers on the transfer boat :  gasoline there is $6.30/gal and the average person makes about $60/day.  Wow !   A quick walk thru one of the dock-side bizzars, and we were met at the gangway with an icy cold face towel...  excellent touch !  A 2 hour nap, and changed for dinner again, only this time Itallian.  Not as wonderful as Cagney's, but we both tried something different, and the service was excellent.  Next it was off to a stage show and we topped off the night with drinks and karioke (I can't spell it because we don't do it; but love to watch). Standing on the top on the ship, as forward as you can get, with nothing but moonlight is an amazing feeling.

Day 3 - Great Stirrup Cay.  Breakfast in the MDR was excellent.  Conversations with some of the staff was fun and informative.  They are truly salt of the earth people.  Very interesting ferry ride to the island; waves like moguls on a ski course.  Everyone arrived wind-blown, but smiling.  We found a great spot on the beach, ordered up a couple drinks and began soaking in the relaxation.  Live music was excellent and every person in the band was smiling.  You never work a day when you love what you are doing.  Lunch was again included and a little less quality than the day before (which was a little surprising since this was NCL's island).  Our only disappointment was all the sharp rocks in the water near the beach.  Everyone was struggling on them.  If you had a float, it was not a problem.  But to get past them was a challenge.  With temps close to 100 that day, we only stayed about 4 hours, and it was time to head back.  A quick shower, nap, and it was time for Cagney's again.  Loved it both times.  Service was again top notch.  Then it was time for White Hot Night on the top deck.  Great fun.  People enjoying themselves to great music, generous drinks, and an all-around good time.  I mean, there are 2,000 passengers onboard, and you are likely to never see another one of them again in your life; SO LIVE A LITTLE !!  Couldn't have asked for a better time.

Back at the pier - we packed the night before, checked out, and were off the ship in less than 15 minutes.  Thru security took 10 minutes and we were back in an airport shuttle for a quick 15 minute ride.

Overall, I'd have to say we enjoyed almost every aspect of our first cruise.  In fact, we have another short trip booked for next June, and still another in Dec to St Thomas.  Can't wait.  If you're not sure about cruising, or if you are thinking maybe a short trip to test the waters, we absolutely suggest the SKY.  Wonderful food, excellent service, and a ship that is not so big that you can't see everything the first time around.  We hope you have as good a time as we did.  Cheers !

Good, short cruise by markperry

Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

This is an excellent starter cruise. The ship is the smallest and oldest of the Norwegian Cruise Line and is scheduled for renovation this fall. It does not have many of the features that are common to larger newer ships such as a water slide, climbing wall, and large pool. The food was excellent, and we all enjoyed the freestyle format. Usually, no lines. The evening shows were interesting, fun, and well produced. The rooms were exceptionally clean. We loved our balcony. All the ship's personnel, from custodians to waiters, were wonderful: helpful, friendly, efficient. There were extra fees, even on the NCL private island, for doing anything other than standing in the water. We thought that inflatable rafts could be complementary rather than $30.

a great getaway by andrewritterjr

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

Overall the cruise ship experience was amazing. Freestyle dining is the way to go. We did eat dinner one night in Il Idagio you and it was delicious. I highly recommend it. the first day at great Stirrup Cay is an amazing beach day. Norwegian has the beach set up perfectly in the buff a while not excellent was still very good for beach food. The second day when we were in Nassau we went on the excursion to the Blue Lagoon. Well this was a nice little getaway it was not that great. When they said a 30 minute boat ride their wrong it is about an hour boat ride there therefor you only have about 2 and a half to 3 hours at the Blue Lagoon. Overall the staff was nice but they could have been a little friendlier. The entertainment was great. Even the small Events were fun for me and my wife to enjoy. I would definitely recommend this cruise as a quick getaway.

A wonderful ship! by bemlexky

The ship was grand, exciting and fun. The crew was very nice too. I just didn't care for the ports. It was raining the days we were in St. Croix and Nassau...but they just seemed dirty and not tourist traps. Loved the crew, the art auction etc. Food was really good.

For a three day cruise, the ship was exceptional. Well kept and the shows were actually entertaining . The food was above average for s cruise ship . The service was also a strong point. I have been on better than twenty cruises and this was the best three day cruise I have ever been on .

I have cruise before on other ships, and I really liked the Norwegian style better. I preferred the freestyle dinning and the entertainment was better. I will definitely cruise with Norwegian again.
