Review summary

This was truly a disappointing and very lackluster cruise. I wouldn't exactly say that I'm a master cruiser, but I've been on a few and all on different cruise lines. I had heard good things about Norwegian and was excited for this one. It turned out to be the worst cruise I've been on thus far.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
The MIA cruise terminal folks really had it together. It was a smooth and quick process and the fastest I have ever gotten on a ship.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Cagney's Steakhouse was extremely good and the only positive on this cruise. The others were bland, very repetitive, and overall lackluster.

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
The casino was the only activity worth taking part in.

Entertainment

2 out of 5
The stage shows were pretty dated in content, however the comedian was great.

Service and Staff

1 out of 5
Surly, disdainful, and overall rushed and dismissive. It was obvious that the crew was not happy, most likely because of the staffing shortage. Our room steward didn't even show up until day two of the cruise and then never brought our one requested item- one bucket of ice. The bottled water in the tiny room fridge was never replenished either. I could care less about towel animals, but there were never any of those either. We ordered room service three times, once for breakfast being pre-ordered by placing your selections out on the cabin doorknob the night before. It was delivered right on time, however our order card was never replaced in the room, so there went room service for breakfast for the rest of the cruise. The other two times we ordered, it took over an hour each time, with the last order taking two hours to deliver. That one was at least comped by the staff. In addition, the lines at ALL of the bars, no matter the time, were ridiculous and the service so obviously intentionally slow that you probably won't get your money's worth on the all-inclusive drink package.

Ship Quality

1 out of 5
Although overall clean, the Sky is extremely dated, and I do mean dated. There is an overall lack of natural light everywhere, decor is old, and the layout is fairly clunky- not enough staircases and tiny elevators which take forever.

Cabin / Stateroom

1 out of 5
While this cabin was priced and billed as a more premium and exclusive option than a standard balcony stateroom, it was anything but. Dated decor with a huge 90's motel art canvas hung off center on the wall, a worn and threadbare pull-out sofa with stains, stains all over the carpet, frayed curtains, and nail and screw holes in the walls and the bathroom. The cabin itself was always very warm (like much of the ship itself) and the curtains had to be kept closed during the day to try and keep the space somewhat cool. This cabin was directly below the outdoor dining and buffet venue, so we could hear everything day and night, as well as hear the scraping of chairs and tables. Waking up to chicken wings and other food on our balcony which had been thrown from above wasn't very conducive to having breakfast out there either. Save your money on this option.

Ship tip

Please avoid the Norwegian Sky at all costs- it is not worth your money for a ship and cruise of this quality.

Great Stirrup Cay (Cruise Line Private Island), Bahamas

2 out of 5
Lackluster, sad, and nearly fake with actual artificial grass laid out in certain places, this place looked like a penal colony when viewed from the ship and tender. There were no activities going on and we only saw two people using the zipline. The water was beautiful and nice to swim in, but try not to gaze longingly at the other nearby island which is owned by another cruise line. It appeared lush, green, inviting, and fun with waterslides and other amenities which were absent on Great Stirrup Cay.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Again, great job in MIA and the quickest I've ever disembarked from a cruise.
