Review summary

A great cruise with very good weather in December. Our third cruise with NCL and never disappointed. The western Caribbean itinerary is interesting and diverse visiting 5 different countries. The ship, food and crew were all excellent.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Efficient and well organized except for a screw up on the names on our keycards which they promptly fixed and compensated for by letting us board first.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The Pearl having been recently refurbished was nice, neat and tidy. I like the size and layout of the Jewel class ships. All dining venues are excellent and enjoyed the Summer Palace the most. The food was the best we have had on any cruise.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Always fun and entertaining. And the food is great!

Entertainment

3 out of 5
This would be my only critisism about the cruise. The main theater entertainment was a little weak compared to other cruises we have been on including other NCL cruises. They had a very good comedian and a very good acrobatic couple, but the vocalists were not that impressive and ran 4 nights in a row including their production of Legends in Concert. But again, perhaps it's just not my taste in music. The keyboard/vocalist names "Lewis" was very good in some of the lounges.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Friendly, energetic, and attentative. What more could you want!

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Excellent layout on the Jewel class ships, and the right size. The ship was clean and well maintained.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Our cabin was excellent and conveniently located mid-ship on deck 9.

Ship tip

Its the right size ship if you want to avoid the mega size ships and crowds. When we were in ports requiring us to tender in it was timely and efficient.

Ports of call

New Orleans, Louisiana

5 out of 5
Fun city to visit. We even stayed two extra nights before flying home.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

3 out of 5
This port is OK. We took an NCL excursion to Chacchoben which was interesting, but having visited several other Mayan ruins it rates about average.

George Town, Grand Cayman

5 out of 5
We checked one off our bucket list and did the dolphin swim and sting ray swim. Nice facility for the dolphins and a natural experience with the rays. All fun and fascinating at the same time.

Coxen Hole, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

5 out of 5
We did the Tabyana Beach and Snorkel. The best snorkeling experience we ever had with fantastic coral and lots of fish in calm swimming waters.

Santo Tomas De Castilla, Guatemala

4 out of 5
We did the Hacienda Tijax excursion which gave a chance to see some of the countryside and an interesting rainforest hike.

Belize City, Belize

4 out of 5
We had spent a week in Belize before so had covered many other activities so we did the Chrystal Cave tubing which was fun and entertaining. The only issue was that it was crowded as we had a total of 4 cruise ships in port.

Cozumel, Mexico

5 out of 5
We didn't spend time in Cozumel as we did the Amazing Secret River excursion across on the mainland. An EXCELLENT experience if your really into caves. You wade, walk and swim your way through a beautiful and undisturbed cave. The tour operators are excellent, knowledgeable and efficient.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
We self-assisted as we disembarked, and caught a taxi to our nearby hotel.
