Review summary

Great scenery and experiences off the ship. The ship needs a makeover...

Embarkation

3 out of 5
Manhattan cruise terminal is basically a warehouse with chairs. Nothing like the facilities in Florida.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
The buffet spaces were fine. Best place for dinner if you want a quiet peaceful event. The buffet food was basic and repetitive. The MDR was nothing special. Long lines at times and pushy and noisy. Service was good but nothing special. Specialty restaurant Food Republic was fine, good food just a bit sterile of atmosphere. Like being in a fancy McDonalds.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Not much for the physically fit. Adequate but smallish gym with new equipment. We attended "fitness classes" but they were more show than go. The shop has small main pools and two watersides. On the warmer days one of the slides was broken and the rest of the time it was cold. My friends roade the gocarts. They were frustrated by a slow track due to overcrowded course with inexperienced drivers choking it up.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The ships main two shows were very good. One a costumed spectacular the other a vocal show. Very good singers and dancers. Two comics on board, not the best, repetitive. The Beatles cover band was very good, saw them in the theater. The Cavern club is nice buy very small. Outdoor entertainment was moved indoor due to the weather, not too successfully.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Staff and bar service was very good. Room stewards are a missing breed. Gone are the days of greetings, service and turn down service. Basically a house keeper.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Ship is definitely dated. Older worn surfaces especially the stair areas. Elevators are very dark inside and floor buttons are only on one side low always blocked by overcrowding.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Room as clean enough. There are no drawers in the cabin. Only shelves. Our arrangement had the bed next to the closet so always difficult to access the closet. Bathroom good, nice clear door shower, good water pressure. The furniture was fine though we always cover the sofa with pool towels because of unknown activity on the sofa.

Ship tip

Bring plastic hangers. Be creative in the buffet. Book all reserved shows immediately.

Ports of call

New York, New York

1 out of 5
Nasty, noisy, dirty.

Boston, Massachusetts

3 out of 5
Once is enough, port far from city center.

Portland, Maine

4 out of 5
Great walk about safe small town with New England seatown vibe.

Sydney, Nova Scotia

4 out of 5
Nice walk about town close to port. Free WiFi at port. It's Canada, safe, secure, organized and beautiful.

Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island

4 out of 5

La Baie, Quebec

3 out of 5
The town is next to nothing. More 1980's than 1880's. The cruise up the Fjord is everything. Spectcular!

Quebec City, Quebec

4 out of 5
Old town is great. Close to port however unless you are used to climbing steep hills you better get a rideshare. Lots of old and new history. The United Stated wishes it was this nice.

Disembarkation

2 out of 5
Only one way off the ship. Long "conga" line through ship to get off. Port facility in Quebec not for large vessels.
