Review summary

Alaska is a beautiful place to cruise but be sure to get a newer and larger ship to make the cruise a true experience of a lifetime. If this is your first cruise then the ship size probably won't be that big of a deal.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The Prime Rib was cut way too thin, it should be thick not like philly cheese steak

The Great Outdoors

2 out of 5

Too cold and windy most of the trip to make use of this area. It was even cold in this area when it was sunny and warm in the middle of the ship.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Sailed on the Escape last year and that spoiled us with all the activities and venue's available on the larger ships, hard to go back to a smaller ship.

Internet Cafe

1 out of 5

Norwegian desperately needs to staff this area full time instead of a couple of hours at differently times of the day. Especially at the beginning of the cruise when EVERYONE is struggling to get connected to their OVERPRICED internet service.

Entertainment

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
TV remote control needed new batteries and the room safe did not work, left a note for the room steward and they were not fixed when we left the ship at the end of the cruise. We left the note on the 2nd day of a 7 day cruise.

Ship tip

Book your cruise instead on the Bliss or Joy to get all the extras that go with larger newer ships

Ports of call

Seward (Anchorage), Alaska

Embarkation port, we were there most of the day which seemed like a waste of cruise time. Would have like to had more time in Juneau.

Icy Strait Point (Hoonah), Alaska

Juneau, Alaska

Only had 5 hours in the largest city in that area, lots of things to do but not enough time.

Skagway, Alaska

Ketchikan, Alaska

Had to leave the ship by 10am and our flight did not leave until 10:20pm. Took a 4 hour city tour which was nice but exhausting with so many people everywhere. Got to the airport at 3:30pm and now 7 hours with nothing to do in a small airport. I would avoid this airport at all costs going forward as most everything about it was bad. You check your luggage and then they make you carry it halfway across the airport to where the luggage actually gets on the track to go to the plane. They checked our passports at least 4 times before we could finally get on the plane. It also took them a full hour to get everyone boarded on the plane. Slowest boarding process I have ever seen. Again, if at all possible avoid this airport.

Bliss and Joy are too large to be allowed in glacier bay thats why they are round trip from seattle

The Joy needs to replace Jewel on this itinerary but instead they are having Joy and Bliss do the same basic Alaska itinerary out of Seattle...
