Review summary

Enough said. The registration process online is so automated. We don't understand why the cruise line messed up on our rooms and key cards. Food is excellent; although the packages are way out of line - especially the beverage package. How many sodas can be consumed with $65? A last thought: THE INTERNET PACKAGE IS A RIP-OFF. The logon/logoff process is totally flawed to the point our entire time was eaten up thanks to the onboard Internet manager. Not a one-button process. Fortunately the manager saw our usage log and reimbursed our time. Very, very obnoxious process and pricey option.

Embarkation

Excellent. Shuttle took us from across-street parking lot to the ship loading area. Ship bussers unloaded our luggage (with paper room tags, of course - disgusting) onto their carts and off we went. Check-in flawless in less than 30 minutes. Once on the ship, Client Services managed to mess-up our key cards three times. A lot of plodding up and down the stairs. The entire registration process is so automated. Why can't the cruise line print luggage tags for us and get the registration room situation right. Very frustrating.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We ate mainly in the "Garden" buffet. Excellent variety and quality. We did eat in the Tzar dining room and Italian themed restaurant. Both good. A couple of thoughts: we Americans drive on the right side of the street; same with our walking in halls, etc. Is it too much to expect that others walk the same way? Further, most of us cover our faces when we cough or sneeze? Is that too high an expectation for ship's staff to do the same? The spray "washy washy" defoliant was a little overdone. Some of us are allergic to the antibiotic. May be petty thoughts but to us were a bit obnoxious.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Stayed ondeck or in the Library most of the time. The activities were not of interest to us. The granddaughters had an excellent experience in the kids' Splash lounge.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Cruise director Richard was a dork. Very fake in our opinion. Cirque Bijou performance very good.

Children's Programs

5 out of 5
Kids were entertained the entire trip. Excellent security and variety of programs.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Room staff excellent. See prior comments about wait staff.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Not sure the room or ship design has changed in 40 years. Ship appears to be in good repair and working order. Kids were disappointed they could not go on to the bridge, nor tour the engine room.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
All good, no issues whatsoever. Design has not changed in many years.

Ship tip

Captain is Swedish and talks v-e-r-y slowly. Wake up announcement and day's factoids at 0645. Then the cruise director. Then the activities director. Amazed the ship's chef didn't chime in.

Ports of call

Seattle, Washington

Ketchikan, Alaska

Walked the town from one end to other. City shuttle very nice - especially in the pouring rain.

Juneau, Alaska

Mixed feelings here. Signed up for one of the many Mendenhall Glacier tours. Spent three hours looking at the glacier, period. Nice visit, but missed opportunities to explore Juneau proper. Excursions needs to be limited or better described, like "does not include stops downtown or city highlights."

Skagway, Alaska

5 out of 5
Great tourist destination. Way too much emphasis on shopping. Would like to have visited Haines (somehow), but understand road travel is horrendous.

Victoria, British Columbia

5 out of 5
One of our favorite cities in the world. No excursion. Taxi to downtown, shopped then a tour bus which dropped us outside of the cruise center.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Absolutely the best part of the cruise. We chose carry-off, so we kept our luggage. Zipped off, through customs and to our parking shuttle in - no kidding - 15 minutes.
