Review summary

My husband and I went on the Jewel for a Mexican Riviera cruise with my parents and a few family friends. We considered this our Honeymoon since we were unable to take one after our wedding in September. We got a window stateroom and were upgraded to a porthole instead of a obstructed view room which was awesome! We got the ultimate drink and dining package as part of our cruise as well. We went to dinner at Le Bistro with my parents the first time and had an incredible experience! The food was great and the service was outstanding! The second specialty dining restaurant we went to was La Cucina. My husband and I went to that one ourselves and were really disappointed in the service. We were seated right next to the kitchen, even though there were 3 window seats and multiple other tables around and my husband sat facing the sun. The host asked every other patron if they minded the sun and they could move if needed, but they walked right past my husband and didn't bother to ask him. The food was great and we didn't have too much of an issue getting drinks or refills. The staff seemed to pay more attention to other patrons more than us which was frustrating. We are younger than most cruisers (27 years old) so I feel like we got ignored because we are young and shouldn't care. Our last night we went to Cagney's and had been looking forward to it all week. Once again we were seated by the kitchen and had an extremely hard time ordering. We saw our waitress once when she took our orders and when she dropped our food off. After that she took care of everyone else and left us alone. We waited 15 minutes to get our order taken, another 20 minutes after we were finished eating and had to ask for a dessert menu. After waiting for another 10 minutes we just left. Once again, all other patrons were taken care of and we were left alone. I understand things get busy, and we are extremely laid back people. We don't mind getting seated somewhere other than a window seat, but when you ask someone if they are celebrating anything and they tell you their honeymoon, and then you seat them in the worst spots and ignore them the whole time, it gets frustrating! We understand that the "older" crowd is the majority of the cruise, but we spent a lot of time saving for this cruise. To be ignored at a specialty dining restaurant is absurd. The poolside bar tender were FANTASTIC and always greeted everyone with a smile and started to learn everyone's drink! The shows were stellar and the buffet was never packed. Definitely eat out by the pool when they grill chicken and fresh veggies. Best food I had! Overall it was a great experience, I would suggest having the staff treat each person the same, no matter their age or status. We all paid a lot of money to be there

I had a bad seat once on Freedom of the Seas & we got & changed our seats without their assistance...end result...they seated us in a nice window table. 😅and apologized
