Review summary

The Norwegian Jewel is a beautiful ship with comfortable rooms and spacious dining rooms. It is two years old but looks like new. The crew was delightful and friendly and we had no complaints at all. I would gladly sail aboard the Jewel again. We took advantage of the Freestyle dining and found that to be a wonderful option. Not recommedned for a single person. There was one problem, and that was either a stabilizer or structural issue. there was a lot of vibration in the hull in the choppy waters.

Ports of call

One person I spoke with went on the Flavors of Sorrento and Pompeii and she really enjoyed it. We went to Pompeii and the beach. The beach was HORRIBLE. It was dirty , no sand and a real chore to get to and from. I would NOT recommned this beach. Definitely do Pompeii, but along with some other venue. We saw the Cameo factory, would have liked more time there.
Don't Miss: Pompeii

Messina, Sicily

I went on the Mt. Etna excursion. It was well worth the money. We had a great tour guide and our bus driver negotiated the hairpin turns like Mario Andretti. The scenery was breathtaking. My kids went on the 4x4 excursion and got much higher up and closer to the summit. Their excursion included a meal and they said it was worth doing again.
Don't Miss: Mt. Etna

Not enough time in port to do anything worth while. We were anchored out so we spent a lot of time on the tenders going in and out of the town. Nothing to see there.

We took the "Eternal Rome and the Colosseum" tour. It was superb! I highly recommend it. We had two great tour guides. The first, Daniel, was our guardian watching out for the gypsies and pickpockets and the tour guide, Rita was very knowledgable and personable. It was a very hot day, but she kept us going at a reasonable pace. Our meal was very good included two courses ,wine and tiramisu. Another family took the "Exclusive" Vatican tour and were very dissatisfied. One family took the "Biking the Italian Countryside" tour and were very pleased. It was relatively easy riding and the farmhouse tour and meal were relaxing and enjoyable.
Don't Miss: The Colosseum and St. Peter's Basillica.

Livorno (Florence & Pisa), Italy

We took the "Pisa and the Beach" tour. It was good except we didn't have enough time at MIracle Square (45 minutes) and had well too much time at the beach (4 hours) . The beach was a beautiful, well groomed beach, but four hours was too much. We all agreed we would have rather had more time in Pisa.
Don't Miss: The Piazza del Duomo: Leaning Tower of Pisa

Pros: The ports in Italy were great choices and we had great excursions

Cons: We didn't have enough time in Barcelona or Nice/Cannes
