So, So Cruise

Sail Date: March 14, 2008

Reviewed: 8 years ago

Traveled As: Family w/older children

Room Type: Oceanview

Just returned fron a 9 day cruise on NCL Jewel.
The ship and all the help were great
The bad aspects of the cruise were:
We didn't like Freestyle dining and pushing drinks on people, selling raffle tickets everywhere especially at the shows, automatically putting gratuities on bill. I got tired of telling the waiters that I didn't want any drinks.
We would prefer to have same waiters etc at meals and tip Room Stewards and Dining Help myself according to service.
Also they have a real bad system for getting off. It shouldn't take more than 2 hours to depart.
There was a Lounge on the deck below our room and at 11:30 every night you could hear screaming and music in our room. We made a complaint and no one ever got back to us.
One of the Islands in the Dominican Republic "Somoa" was so poor it made you NOT want to go ashore. The locals followed you and hounded you all the time you were there.
The other islands gradually got better as far as quality of life goes BUT you were hounded by the locals also.

Pros: Ship was good and the help onboard were great

Cons: Freestyle dining, pushing drinks on people

Recommends Norwegian Jewel? No.

Cabin / Stateroom
Service and Staff
Ship Quality
Ship and crew was excellent along with cleanliness. They are very concerned about people getting sick onboard and had hand sanitation areas everywhere.
Food and Dining
Food was average. Didn't like having to pay $20. a head if you wanted the specialty restaurants. You pay enough for the cruise without having to pay extra.
Castries, St. Lucia
Hounded by the locals too much
Bridgetown, Barbados
Hounded by the locals too much
Road Town, Tortola, B.V.I.
Hounded by the locals too much
Cayo Levantado (Samana), Dominican Republic
St. John's, Antigua
Hounded by the locals too much
