Review summary
The Jade is a nice ship, not too big, not too small with a nice bed and ample size bathroom. The food in the upper buffet area far exceeded the fare in the formal dining areas. In the latter, our food was often room temperature when served and on multiple occasions we had to leave our table to go get the tea pitcher or baskets of bread, all because the wait staff stood waiting instead of attending to the diners.
As for the room staff, we battled unmade beds, sloppy cleaning and missing towels. Very disappointing considering the room itself was very nice.
We attribute the poor service to the fact that no matter whether good or bad the staff now receive a weekly salary instead of tips. A preset amount is billed to your acct each day to cover tips for the staff. At the end of the cruise the funds are distributed among the staff. Sadly, too many of the staff are now just biding their time waiting for payday Saturday to arrive.
