Review summary

The ship was immaculate at all times, the room well appointed and the bed very comfortable.  We had all our meals in the Garden Cafe and everything, without exception, was excellent.  It got a bit crowded during lunch, but we were always able to find a table.  The open-air stern dining area outside the Garden Cafe was pleasant.  Plenty of choices for this fish-eating otherwise vegetarian, and the veggie burger was delicious.  Breads and desserts were also excellent.  We're low-key travelers, not joiners, so we did not partake in the many activities offered.  The entertainment was excellent, although some of the performances were extremely loud and I had to use earplugs to enjoy them.  Other entertainers in the bars & atrium were also excellent, especially Twice as Nice and the guitar playing singers.  The check-in at Barcelona took over an hour - they needed more people at the counters.  Lots of grumbling from the mostly over-60 crowd.  We were lucky to have excellent weather and the Atlantic crossing was very smooth.  Justin, our room steward, did an excellent job.  We took our own luggage off at disembarkation and were outside at the taxi stand in about 10 minutes.  No crowds.  Overall an extremely positive experience.

Nice size cabin, well designed and comfortable. Lots of storage for clothes. Our luggage fit in the closet. The bathroom was bigger than I expected. The bed was extremely comfortable, and I loved the pillows so much that I looked for a tag so I could buy my own (Softex). There was a coffee maker, flat screen TV and hair dryer. We were pleased that there was a choice for news on TV between Fox, MSNBC and BBC. The movies on TV were ok, could have used more variety and a printed schedule as part of the daily schedule. Balcony was just the right size with privacy. Our cabin steward, Justin, kept everything immaculate and was very sweet and friendly. Port side was a good choice, although sunny in most afternoons till we reached the Caribbean. Great views of sunrises and sunsets. We were also only about 5 cabins from the stairs, which was convenient.

Ship tip

Soap and shampoo are provided in the shower, but we brought our own. Deck 7 is perfect for walking as it goes all around the ship and is mostly in shade. To avoid the worst crowds at lunch in the Garden Cafe, go a little late, after the initial rush.

Ports of call

Barcelona, Spain

We had 2 days in Barcelona. The hop on-hopoff buses are a great way to see the city. The old city & Picasso museum are not to be missed. Very friendly people, a beautiful city.

Funchal, Madeira

We took a bus tour around the island which was a good thing to do with limited time. Stops at view overlooks and souvenir shopping, beautiful pottery and embroidery. Cable car ride down from Monte was excellent.

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

Disapointed in the plethora of touristy crap for sale. T shirts, souvenirs, same stuff everywhere. Took a bus tour around the island which was beautiful, with stops at view overlooks and more souvenir shopping. More of the same stuff, not a place I would return to.

Miami, Florida

Didn't get off the ship in Miami.

Houston, Texas Did not visit port

We took our own luggage off at disembarkation and were outside at the taxi stand in about 10 minutes. No crowds. They did make us walk from one door near the elevators down to another to get out, then back to the location of the first door to the gangway. Didn't understand why.
