Review summary

The Jade is a nice ship. Although the ship is in need of a makeup, i recommend the ship for those who are looking to experience different restaurants, itineraries and first timers. With regards to service, it can be improved. Especially if you have been on other cruise lines i.e.RCI, there are some noticeable differences in service. I like the itineraries on this cruise as I had not been to Turkey before. I also enjoy the ability to book a tour on my own with the cruise ship providing the transportation only. This was especially good for my party as two of my companions did not speak English, and would have been a waste of money had we booked a full tour. Other languages were available, but not in Portuguese.

I would definitely return to the Jade if they end up on different itineraries in the future.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The complimentary food needs some fine tuning specially the soups. The added fee food, was very nice

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Good enough for the lengths of the cruise.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Just like any longer cruise, some days you better off joining your party at a bar

Children's Programs

Service and Staff

Fine tuning is a must. Some servers on upscale restaurants need lots of training on service and presentation.

Ship Quality

Just like any other ship. we had an Aft cabin and they were nice

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
This is a great cabin if you do not get sea sick, and enjoy having 180 degree view. Especially when you are at a port of call for the day.

Ports of call

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

1 out of 5
The port is far from Rome. Although you can get to/from the port by train, when you leave the port it can be very expensive if you do not know how to get around. Cab services to the train station are available (5 euros p/p or 40 euros on a bus p/p or 75 euros p/p with the ship booking, or 120 euros minimum on a taxi. You must be patience as only one cab makes the run to the train station, while the other cabs try to scam those with less experience.

Katakolon (Olympia), Greece

3 out of 5
Small port, small town to buy souvenirs. Nice to walk around. A trip to Olympia is a must if it is your first time there.

Piraeus (Athens), Greece

3 out of 5
Walking distance to the metro, where you can get to Athens on your own. Transit is bad during weekdays. If there is no traffic, a taxi can be as much as 12 euros from the forum area.

Kusadasi (Ephesus), Turkey

3 out of 5
A trip to Ephesus and Virgin Mary is a must for first timers. Otherwise, a nice port for souvenirs and walking around.

Istanbul, Turkey

1 1/2 days is great to enjoy the sights. If you are adventurous, you can see everything on your own for less than what the ship offers. Of course a guide is a good idea if you want to know about the sight as you visit.

Naples, Italy

A trip to Pompei is great if first time. Otherise, the city has lots to offer for shopping. City center right across from the port, and waking distance
