Review summary

The ship was fine, other than some of the public rooms were over the top w/Hawaiian decorations. It is very casual, which I wasn't really used to from previous experience...no need to dress up ever, if you don't wish to. Too bad it wasn't a "wow" experience, as one of our group was on his first cruise.

The food was pretty good. We never used any of the specialty restaurants as we didn't feel the need to spend extra for dinners, however, friends who did so on the last nite in the French one felt it was worth it.

Don't miss the "Elements" show which is fabulous. Otherwise forgettable.

They were all very friendly. Our cabin steward, Paciano, was always doing extra things for us our friends did not get on other levels.

We were in cabin 4514 and I wasn't happy w/the location on the bottom at first, but ended up being ok. I thought I had booked a cabin w/a window, not a porthole.

Ports of call

The only shore excursion we booked thru the ship was the bus to the capital. It was very comfortable and the tour guide, Matje, was great. A beautiful city, but not enough time to really experience it.

We took the train to Taromina for about 9 Euros each. You get a great view of Mt. Etna from there. Beautiful city.

We did not care for Naples at all. We took the train to Pompei which was easy to do and a fantastic experience.

Get there right away in the morning so you can experience the main street w/o a million people. Walk the wall.

We booked a private tour once inside the walls. It was maybe $15pp for a 1 1/2 hr tour. Very nice experience.

Don't Miss: Climb the clock tower! Stroll the promenade. Visit the green market.

Pros: The ports were great, which is really my main focus.

Cons: The ship was originally meant for Hawaii, so decorated as such. Pretty tacky in many areas. At least "art" was of a vintage look. Wish it would have been decorated with scenes of Italy.

Recommends Norwegian Jade? Yes!
