Absolutely disappointed. We have sailed NCL before and enjoyed our trips. This one not so. Ship configuration very geared to a different crowd, tolerance for smokers was high(forgot to mention the casino in the middle of the ship, in an open atrium, so smoke on levels 6,7, and 8. You had to walk through smoke to get from one end of the ship to the other.), no consideration for others was prevalent in the age group for whom this ship was catering. Will never return to the Getaway ship, and will so advise our cruising friends.

Food and Dining

Dull buffet choices.
At dinner time ate at specialty restaurants most nights. Savor and Taste we fair, food cool or cold on arrival. Noisy, noisy patrons both in the restaurants and especially at the bar just outside the two dining rooms.
Tropicana was quieter, but food temp still a problem.
Onboard Activities

The Atrium activities were ok…but often we had to stand. We never went to the pools. 1. Was to kids. 2. The big pool was monopolized by 30-40somethings, loud, crass and left no room for anyone else. 3. Pool at spice H2O was on a smoking deck. Very, very disappointing.
Entertainment

Comedy was great at the 8pm show as ‘under 18 friendly’.
Children's Programs
We didn’t have kids with us
Service and Staff

Hard to group these all together. Our room steward was wonderful (9222). She needs to be congratulated for her attention. Dining waiters were as expected, with the positive exception of Arta and Min Min.
Ship Quality

We will never go back on this ship. There was no quiet area (like on Bliss/Joy, where there wasn’t smoke or loud drunk people. Said to have had a library on board. Not so. A wall with travel books in the card room. Not a ship for anyone over 55.
Cabin / Stateroom

Terribly small balcony. Room was as expected, but the balcony was terrible. Additionally, the neighboring balcony had a smoker out on it. We reported this the day we boarded and subsequent day.
Ship tip
Don’t! unless you are younger than 55, like smoke and loud, loud obnoxious drinkers.
Chaos sums it up. We self embarked…no elevators to the appropriate level, so had to take our own luggage down steps. One woman employee helped me, but I had to beg a male ‘helper’ employee to take my husband’s suitcase. No one was happy with the early departure process. Don’t know the later process.
We went on the Getaway last November and had a wonderful time. This was a cruise in Europe. It has been my experience that Carribbean cruises have a more party and noisy atmosphere.
Sorry you did not enjoy your Getaway cruise.
Not sure why you keep mentioning age, not all over 55s want a quiet cruise! Sounds like this just wasn’t the cruise to suit your preferences, although any NCL cruise I’ve been on has had something for everyone. Hope you enjoy your next one better.
NCL ships are geared towards ALL ages, not just one demographic. If you want something geared towards an older demographic, I suggest Holland America, Princess, etc.
