Review summary

A man with some dementia was walking on the awning for the restaurants below our stateroom (see the photos to explain). He was scared and did not know how he got there. It was at sea, rocky and DARK (10:00 PM). We called the ships 911 and the agent argued with me on the phone and did not know the layout of the ship. The agent then hung up on me. The man disappeared and we thought he went overboard for sure. Called 911 again and no one showed up at our cabin. I went to the hall and started screaming help and knocking on doors. Neighbors called 911 also. The man then came walking back and my husband settled him down and got him to come to our railing, then he grabbed his arm. The man was larger than my husband and strong. I was very nervous that my husband could be pulled overboard. Then security came around the back of the ship on the awning slowly and up against the wall. They then finished helping my husband and I getting the man over the rail and then needed help themselves to get over. They went through our room and to medical. The securities response was horrible, and put everyone at risk! No report was taken and I hear that is normal so these situations are not recorded. Talked with the captain at the Latitudes party and they said they would call for us to give a statement, but of course did not happen. The man was saved two days before Christmas!!! So good news there!

Embarkation

3 out of 5
not as expected

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
fair to good

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
Few activities, considering the amount of people on board. Lines and more lines.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
The ones you could get into were good.

Service and Staff

1 out of 5
The staff was excellent until it came to the service desk, security and the officers. They were cold and untrained. The security being untrained was a danger to everyone.

Ship Quality

2 out of 5
To large for our preference, dangerous areas. All was very clean.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Cabin assistant was wonderful, all as expected.

Ship tip

Do not do it. Security is untrained & unresponsive, resulting in one man almost losing his life.

Ports of call

New Orleans, Louisiana

5 out of 5
Did a city tour prior to getting on the ship, it was good. New Orleans is a blast. Good food, nice people and great music.

Cozumel, Mexico

3 out of 5
Excursion canceled, shopping OK.

Coxen Hole, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

2 out of 5
Disney land type port. No excursion.

Harvest Caye, Belize

2 out of 5
A cleaner Disneyland type port. No excursion.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

3 out of 5
Ok beach experience, not great.

Disembarkation

2 out of 5
It was the typical hurry up and wait situation.

Traveler Photos

Bolts stick up about 2" to 3" and no railing. The night view 9th floor balcony. Easy access to the awning.

I believe the story. We were on that Cruise. When we got to our first Port a man & his family left the Ship with their luggage, he was in a wheel chair & didn’t seem aware of where he was. You could tell his family was very concerned about him. We had a problem with the guy below us smoking on his balcony, I called about it several times & every number I called just rang & rang, no answers.

When I was on that ship, someone died. We had to go all the way back to Florida in the middle of the night. I felt so bad for the family.

I agree with Izzyhovig. Could have been a number of things. If this is a true story I applaud them for not grabbing their phone to not hurry and video on some social media or worry about taking pictures. They acted and did what’s right. With that being said again if the story is true. Which I don’t think they would make that up. 🤞🏻

I’m with dvsdog, I don’t believe any of that.

How do you know the man had “some dementia”? I mean, are you a neurologist? No offense, but isn’t it possible he was drunk or under the influence of medication that blurred his thinking? (I’m thinking of stories where Ambien, a prescription sleeping pill, has caused sleep walking) Still, that was brave of you and your husband to intervene. No report was filed, though? Do the ship’s officers really need to check in with you, to assure you it was? He was handled by security and likely by the medical team- no more to really worry from there.

I could be wrong but I’m thinking this was a made up complaint. Someone is trolling I believe if this was real they would of had a picture of said man also not just the awning

Don't bring him

Definitely a scary experience that was not handled well. Hopefully the ship and the man’s family learned a valuable lesson from the experience.
