Review summary

The cruise was fair. Sailing in the Escape twice before the Getaway, I would choice the Escape. The staff was overall more friendly on the Escape. It almost appeared that the staff might have just rotated on. The biggest disappointment was Halloween night. There was a fire on the fourth floor crew laundry area. Took them about 45 minutes to contain the fire. This completely closed the kids scavenger hunt, kids club, Haven area and delayed the scavenger hunt over a hour. I know this seems petty, but after talking with members of the fire bregade, the fire was caused by staff. They placed spa towels in the wrong appliance. The chemicals on the towels started the fire.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The buffet food was okay. Had a Ruben at Osheehan’s and that was below average. Food in Haven restraint was great. Tepoenyaki was good. Food at Cagney’s was decent, but not worth the two hours it took for them to serve it. From the time we sat down until we left was just over two hours.

Teppanyaki

4 out of 5

Really a 4.5 on stars. The chef and food were great. Entertained us the whole time and we were doing some sing alongs. It would be a five, but waitress staff is the only thing holding that back. Had to wait a while for drinks to be delivered and refilled. Other than that, a great time with good food.

Cagney's Steakhouse

3 out of 5

Food was decent. Nothing that you would write home about. The steak was good as well as the lamb chops. It was part of our package. If I had to pay for it, I wouldn’t go. Been to better steakhouses. The service is slow. Took over two hours from the time we sat until we were finished. The main course came and had to wait an additional five minutes for the sides. The staff was great. You could tell the deal with this and were very apologetic.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
The normal activities. Halloween night activities were all messed up due to fire on ship.

Entertainment

Children's Programs

Kids loved Spkash Academy and staff.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Haven cabin steward was worst we ever had. Talked with some folks in rooms next to us and the agreed. Room wasn’t spplied with enough towels for four people. Second bathroom didn’t have any soap, shampoo or condition it. When we asked for more, it was a five minute Q&A session. Room wasn’t vacuumed for the first five days. Ended up talking to Haven concierge and his supervisor. Our balcony was never cleaned. The two times we had the same room on Escape, they cleaned our balcony every day. Haven bartender was great, pool bartenders just average. Tables slow to be cleaned off at buffet area.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Like the design, but you can tell it needs to be redone. I guess that’s why they are overhauling her very soon. Staff didn’t take hand cleaning/sanitizing as serious. No washy/washy person making sure you cleaned hands.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Love the room. This was the third time with this style room. Steward was worst we ever had. Mentioned issues above.

Ship tip

Ovoid buffet at peak times.

Ports of call

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

Went to St John. Sad to see Cinnamon Bay in the shape it’s in.

Tortola, British Virgin Islands

5 out of 5
Recovered from hurricanes pretty good. Chartered a boat and went to Sandy Spit. Little bit smaller than before, but it’s coming back. Went to JVD, they are bouncing back. Everything is a little smaller scale as they are still recovering. Good to see them all open.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
Priority disembarkation. You could see a long line though for people with standard.

I am not moaning. When staff tells you that it shouldn’t of happened, then that is the part I have issues with. A person made a mistake and could of cost a lot of soles some tragedy. I am glad they handled it quickly and efficiently. Maybe staff shouldn’t offer information. I guess he felt like he could talk since I had a firefighter shirt on.

Amen I was on the same ship and cruise. They handled the issue as fast as possible and kept us informed. We had a little one with us and are just glad it wasn’t major he still enjoyed the festivities. Shit happens cruises are unpredictable. Like you said lucky instead of moaning.
