Beautiful boat. Very large. Smooth ride for the most part. Well designed layout. For her size, didn't seem like nearly enough activities going on. Shows repeat several times instead of new ones every night. Great crew. Splurge on the upgraded dining.
Embarkation
4 out of 5
Security was a breeze. Very short line to check in at the desk. Waiting area upstairs was very warm and there were no restrooms. Had to wait about 15 minutes to get on the boat from the upstairs area.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
Excellent specialty dining in the upgraded restaurants. Tropicana Room was below what was expected. Service was borderline terrible and food there just okay. Buffet was as expected with some fantastic Indian choices. Bar service was quick and tasty with some good pours.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
As big as the ship is, it's missing at least 1 extra pool as they're beyond packed on sea days. Ropes course is a nice addition and slides are fun. Biggest problem was activities seemed to be scheduled almost at the same time then big gaps where not much was going on. Getaway theater vastly under utilized and way too small for this big a ship.
Entertainment
3 out of 5
The two main floor shows Burn the Floor and Million Dollar Quartet were actually fabulous. The problem is that's really the only 2 shows the whole trip. The theater is too small for the ship so they just repeat the same shows over and over instead of new entertainment every night. Illusionarium show was very good but the food was not great. Should be a show-only option.
Children's Programs
Service and Staff
4 out of 5
Aside from a comedy of errors in the Tropicana Room all the staff was polite and knew how to serve. Bar staff was fantastic. Our room steward was just okay (had to ask for things but they did provide but nothing above and beyond) but fellow traveler's went well above an beyond.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
As big as the Getaway is, she's remarkably easy to navigate. The center of decks 6,7 and 8 have a clear path from forward to aft without hidden areas where it's almost impossible to find things. Ship seemed very clean. The only problem with the casino being on deck 7 around the open 678 Park is the smell of the smoke can permeate the area.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
What I was expecting. Very quite considering the buffet was above us. Balcony's slider door seals room so very very little outside noise even with a party happening on the decks above.
Ship tip
Specialty dining may be worth the price to most. The level of food quality and service was well above the main dining rooms. Actually preferred Moderno to Cagney's.
Over developed port looks nice but gets very busy and seems uber fake. Mahahual beach used to be amazing and a quick and cheap taxi away. Now there's very little beach and the bottom was very very rocky and full of seaweed with lots of locals nagging you to buy stuff.
Of course it's a giant shopping center off the boat...excepted by now. Chonkanaub was a little more theme park-ish than expected. Beach was nice with great views. Great for snorkeling.
Big boat takes a long time to get off. Hope you have easy to find luggage. Customs line moved fast but still took about 30 to find bags and get all the way out.
