Review summary

The actual ship and on board staff were great.. The Captain made two safety related decisions to skip ports in the Azores and Belgium. Somewhere along the line contingency planning was neglected and chaos descended at the French and British ports. The single uncovered steep metal gangway used in Brest France could only accommodate a maximum of 20 able-bodied or a single mobility impaired individual. Hours of delay in locating and relocating this gangway were compounded by the slow disembarkation process, resulting in only an hour or two off the ship. Similar issues resulted in waits of up to five hours disembarking in Southampton.

I think the Getaway is suffering many mechanical issues and not being upfront with passengers about those issues. Alhough we did not miss any ports on our Caribbean cruise last month, the Getaway was late to almost every port and the schedule was screwed up. I also know that it skips ports many times, especially Harvest Caye. Although weather is cited doubt that is the case. Our tour guide in Roatan (who worked on cruise ships for 20 years) said the Getaway had been late to port or missed Roatan four weeks in a row. Although I did have a great time on my cruise on Getaway, the ship does have some flaws and based on the recent reviews, I almost wonder what's up with NCL?? Are things going downhill??

So sorry you had that experience. I've read several comments/reviews from others on that sailing with the same disatisfaction. I cruised the Getaway in January in the Caribbean, and it was perfect! Everything was perfect! Not sure what the heck happened when it decide to cruise Europe! I'm sailing the Getaway again this coming January, when back in the Caribbean.
