Review summary

Most disappointed in our $200 cruise credit "given" to us by . We were never told we had to jump through hoops to receive something we were "given". The cruise ship was beautiful but in this case you got what you paid for. We chose Specialty Dining and pre-paid our gratuities. When we went to the restaurants, most of the nicer meals had an "up-charge". So you paid to eat at the restaurants and then had to pay more for the better meals. All of the restaurants on board required a reservation in advance, even the free ones. I have a hard time knowing what I am doing the next day while on vacation, much less five to six days in advance. Not happy that most of the good shows also had a charge. We called it the "Up-charge cruise", felt like we were nickle and dimed throughout the trip. We also thought the daily per day, per person mandatory charge was excessive. Ahhhh, to remember the good ole days of cruising. We had wanted to book our next cruise while on board, but had to reconsider sailing on Norwegian and we will also be reconsidering booking through .

Loved the bathroom space, nice shower. Hated the balcony, and this was the larger balcony. Couldn't even sit in the small chairs straight, had to sit face to face with a tiny little table between us, could not sit side by side....I'm only 5'3", my husband is 5'10". Can't imagine how larger people would fit comfortably.

This person leaving the comment is some one who only sees things their own way.  One negative event blows the whole cruise for them.  Pay the extra and go on the Queen Mary.  People, if you have a problem on a cruise: #1 put it in writing to the Hotel Manager, #2 move on from the negative and search out the positive or you will be in for a bad cruise.  You only have 7 days, so get it right and move on.

We just got off the Getaway on Sunday and you are absolutely wrong. The free restaurants do not require a reservation. Also the only shows that cost were the Magic Show at Illusionarium, Wine Lovers the Musical, and if you consider it a show, Deal or No Deal. The good shows - Million Dollar Quartet and Burn the Floor - do require reservations but are free! And MDR food was excellent.

I haven't cruised the Getaway yet but we didn't have to make a reservation in the main dining room on the Escape. If by reservation you mean they seated in blocks, then sure but you never had to have a reservation. We walked up and got seated just fine on the Escape every night we ate in the MDR. I'm not sure why people complain about the upcharge for food. I wasn't disappointed in a single meal I had on the ship and never paid extra and never repeated a meal.

Which show charges other than the magic show? When I was on there, you couldn't make a reservation for the free restaurants. If you think about it, the $13 per day per person is a deal I think. It goes to your room steward and wait staff.

Just so you know, all cruiselines now have the gratuity. They are about the same across the board. Yes, cruising has changed. When you cruise again, research a little more. If you want the old way, you are going to have to step up to a more expensive cruiseline. Happy cruising!
