Review summary

What a ship! The Getaway exceeded our expectations. Even though this was our 8th cruise and had the largest passenger capacity we never felt crowded and the service was as fantastic as ever. The ship had incredible water slides, a rock climbing wall, and challenging ropes course. The activity schedule was full and varied - the best we've seen. We've noticed with all the cruise lines that the food selections are showing the effect of the economy and shrimp, lobster, and filet mignon are not standards on the menu but the food was still delicious. A bonus for us was soft serve and hard serve ice cream available all day and made-to-order crepes every evening. We have sailed everything but Carnival (and don't ever intend to) and this boat was the BEST. Also, we had never booked through but the service was really great and the price beat booking directly through the cruise line. We can't wait to book our next cruise with Jan from .

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Not as much of the more expensive food items as in the past but still great.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Best selection of activities we've ever seen. So much to do, lots of choices for lots of interests.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Shows were good but not anything too amazing

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The cruise director and assistant were FANTASTIC! (Joel and Tyler)

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The biggest, best, cleanest, newest we've ever been on

Cabin / Stateroom

Lay out great. Cleanliness great. Personal service not as good as cruises in the past. The housekeeping staff appeared so overworked they didn't have time to be too friendly.

Ship tip

Definitely try the water slides and rope course even if you're really grown up (50+). They were so much fun. Bring socks if you want to do the rock climbing wall.

Ports of call

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

Avoid the beach where they planes land. Crazy loud and scary with sand pelting the unsuspecting visitors.

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

5 out of 5
What a beautiful and quiet beach. Almost as nice as the cruise lines' private islands.

Nassau, Bahamas

It's so commercialized with many vendors and lots of folks wanting to braid your hair, paint you a picture, etc.
