Getaway Adventure

We recently sailed on the Norwegian Getaway (Sep 6-13). We celebrated my birthday on board and it was quite a fun week.The ship was wonderful. Everything was extremely comfortable and luxurious. The crew were extremely pleasant and helpful and we had a wonderful week of fun, sun, relaxation and adventure.

We really enjoyed our cabin. The layout was good and we found it to be spacious (we stayed on a balcony cabin on deck 9).

The food was excellent. I would be surprised if anyone complains about the food. We did the buffet, the main dining room and the specialty restaurants - so we sampled everything. Nothing disappointed. Everything was divine. If you like to be served for breakfast instead of the buffet, you can go to Taste or Savor and not have to pay extra.

The entertainment was also excellent! We recommend all the shows. We found Legally Blonde Musical a little boring (but it may be someone else's cup of tea...certainly the cast was very talented - but it was just not interesting for us.). Burn the Floor is a must! You will be mesmerized by these dancers.

We enjoyed all the onboard activities. I recommend the ropes course...although scary, it was quite fun!We did not try the spa, but everything else was definitely fun and entertaining and we never had a dull moment or felt bored during the week. In fact there was so much to do that we were a little overwhelmed at times!  We did think that the gym was a little small for a ship of it's size so if you plan to use the gym make sure you go at times when it is not considered peak.

The one thing we would highly recommend is purchasing the Ultimate Dining Package prior to boarding the ship. If you do this then you can pre-book the Illusionarium show for the first night and it is free if you have this package. Otherwise for the other nights you have to pay the cover charge for this show. We went to all the specialty restaurants. Each one had a wonderful menu. We recommend making your reservations for the whole week at one time.The ultimate dining package is excellent value for your money....this is a must in our opinions.

Another show that we found fun was the Wine Lovers show...it was not something that we thought would not interest us, but the cruise director recommended it and we absolutely loved it!

Speaking of the cruise director....what a fun week he and his team ensured we had!

We did not find the itinerary all that interesting....but the ship more than made up for it as we found ourselves wanting to spend time on the ship itself as opposed to going ashore.

We will definitely sail NCL again. My husband has sailed almost all the other companies and he believes the food and entertainment options are the best on NCL for their class of cruisings. I don't have anything to compare with (except our week on the EPIC which was also fabulous) but I absolutely enjoyed the experience.

Definitely recommend a trip on the Getaway.
