Review summary

Key to this cruise is staying in port for three nights. Allows you to see the whole island (if you wish).

Embarkation

3 out of 5
Getting 2500 people on a ship is not easy given the times we live in. That said, this was pretty painless. If you have never cruised, it is part of the process and expect to wait a bit in lines. One thing that I would like to see is the ports providing a better environment for the guests to wait. No guests should be required to wait outside in the cold. That is not on the cruiseline. It is on the ports.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
NCL’s has a great variety of restaurants. Cagney’s and Le Bistro were excellent. Service was also top notch.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Used the gym and fitness center. Excellent equipment however a few treadmills were out of order.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Attended the comedy show- was better than I was expecting. Funny guy.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Excellent. I have never had a bad experience with NCL’s personnel. They work hard and do a great job.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Second time on the Gem. The recent update really refreshed the look. The size is perfect. I only hope the lines continue to offer these sized ships. 5000+ passenger ships, although more profitable, serves a limited sector of the public.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Cabin was excellent. Stayed in a Club Balcony/Mini-Suite. Good sized balcony. Clean.

Ship tip

Gem is a mid sized ship that has a classic feel to it. Been on it twice and would not hesitate to vacation on it again.

Ports of call

Royal Naval Dockyard, West End, Bermuda

5 out of 5
Nice port. Did not get accosted by vendors as Bermuda seems to frown at that. Thank the Lord!

Disembarkation

Went as well as can be expected. I will say this, it was faster than my last 4 cruises. Again, moving multi thousand passengers through one exit is time consuming.
