Review summary

First and foremost, the staff on the Norwegian Gem, is beyond amazing. So, my review has nothing to do with the employees on this ship. However, I will never book another cruise on the Norwegian Gem. I was actually shocked to see, how much access children have on this boat. I’ve never seen children, ones that were even in carriages, allowed in bars and clubs, at 10:30 at night. At the Spinnaker, on more than one night, adults were trying to enjoy and dance, but, it was impossible since there were kids doing cartwheels in the middle of the dance floor. Not sure why this is allowed? We were all looking forward to GLOW party. It is usually for adults only, yet, there were kids running around, everywhere. We stayed for a half hour and we left. Other cruises I’ve been on, there are designated areas for kids. Obviously, the parents just wanted to have fun and disregard what their kids were doing. At Magnums, there were children, sitting at the bar (on the stools) at 8 o’clock at night. WHY IS THIS ALLOWED?? Also, at Magnums, there were elderly people looking for a seat, for Randon’s performances. There were kids on iPads, sitting in various parts of the lounge area, with NO parent supervision. Why?? Why can parents just leave their kids in a BAR?!?! As for the outdoors, we couldn’t even get into one of the four jacuzzis, because they were filled to the brim with kids and teenagers, for the entire trip. I will also say, that a lot of fellow cruisers, on this trip….said that they will never cruise on this boat, ever again, because of the above-mentioned issues.

We Cruise the end of September when all the kids are back in school.

I have grown kids and now grandkids. I'm not offended by most kids on ships, I just have the attitude "thankfully not mine".

Lawnboy1956 is spot on and perfectly said. My personal opinion us, if you don't want kids involved on your cruises, then cruise on cruise lines that cater to the over 50 crowd and not during school breaks.

The issue that you are unhappy with has nothing to do with a specific ship. You picked the wrong cruise line. NCL, RC, Carnival, MSC all cater to families. Parents today do not take responsibility for their children anymore and it’s not the cruise lines job to parent. Do yourself a favour do some detailed research next time and don’t cruise when schools are out. Try lines like Holland America, Cunard, Celebrity and Virgin and you will have a much better experience. Also you are less likely to have this issue if you take 10 day or longer cruises.
