All in all it was good. The drinks need to be better for the price. Maybe the doing room was having an off night when we went but it was not good at all. Beds and linens were fantastic. The water and cold towels returning to the ship at the end of the day are top tier.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Quick and seamless
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
I did not like O’Sheeans or the main dining room.
Best food to me was the vegetarian and Asian cuisine at the buffet.
Onboard Activities
1 out of 5
Minimal activities that we would enjoy.
Service and Staff
4 out of 5
Some of the staff don’t bother speaking or stopping to take drink orders when out by the pool. The staff at the entrance to the buffet were always nice. Our room steward Egy was really nice and accommodating.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
Very clean and well maintained. I would recommend relocating the smokers area to a more isolated area.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
Our bed is very comfortable. The shower pressure and temperature are great. The toilet sitting at an angle is not the best but it works. The inside stateroom is small. It has two beds to make a bigger one and a pull down bed. I can’t imagine having another person in here. It would be too cramped for 3 people and their luggage. The decor is outdated but it works.
Ship tip
I would do this particular ship again with no kids and the goal to only relax because there’s not much else to do
A must do. We did the Two Oceans by Railway. The train ride was uneventful. Most of your time is spent on a bus hearing about the canal and the US Military. Not worth $239pp.
We couldn’t dock at the George Town pier so we went to the next one. Took a bus to the beach. It’s just the beach. Very beautiful but no amenities. No bars, no music, no shopping.
I had a great time on the Gem, except I did have an ongoing issue with clogged toilet for first 4 days. I was eventually moved to another cabin, but since that issue was resolved, I wasn't going to let that be the decider on how great the cruise was. I dont let one issue snowball and start being petty about every little thing to justify a bad review. I personally feel when people say it was the worst cruise ever, it's usually that person who ruined it, not the cruise line.
