Terrible experience getting to the ship and home. Staff very friendly on board, food really mediocre (Worst of the 12 cruises I have been on, except for the last day, the food was good on the last day). The three ports we got to see were pretty great. Too much stress to make it a great experience though.

Well, what to start at? We booked our cruise with air through Norwegian because they promised that "if anything goes wrong with your flights we will be there to help you". This piece of mind was why we did everything together. Let me tell you THEY WILL NOT HELP YOU AT ALL. First off they booked our flights too close together for the connection, they gave us 1 hour from when we landed in Frankfort to get through passport control and get on the next plane to Venice. This is not possible, the plane left us as we finally made it through passport control. This started my phone calls with Norwegian. First I got someone in Australia, they were very nice, the only thing helpful they told me was that we can't join the ship in Montenegro, that we had to join the ship in Corfu Greece, so we were missing the first two days of our cruise because of their lack of understanding how airports work, despite being a travel company. She told me I had to call back in an hour to get out flights sorted out. Call back in an hour, got someone on the phone in England. They said that there was nothing they could do, they could not help us with any travel arrangements and that we were on our own to figure out how to get to the ship. So I went online and did a chat, they said to call the emergency flight line (don't know why the two people I spoke to in person did not tell me about the emergency flight line), so I call them. Spoke to a nice lady in India. She said that she is not authorized to help anyone with emergencies that her only job is to tell people that they have to call back when the Miami office is open, which was 6 hours from when I was talking with her. At this point all I am trying to do is get someone to tell the ship that we are still coming, she said she is not allowed to do that. So I call back to England and finally get someone to confirm that he sent an email to the ship but he is not allowed to send me confirmation that he sent it, that I am supposed to just fly to another country and trust that we are going to be allowed to join the ship. All of these people said that even though Norwegian booked our travel and they screwed this up that they will not help us rebook flights or hotels in trying to join the ship. We get rebooked on a Lufthansa flight to Venice, we have to book our own hotel in Venice, luckily we find an EasyJet flight the next day to Corfu and have to book another hotel out of pocket for something that Norwegian screwed up on. From Venice I speak to someone in the Miami office, they say that there is nothing they can do, despite pushing that if you book air through them they will help you out. Also that they cannot send any confirmation to me that they have contacted the ship and let them know we are coming. (we spoke to multiple people that also had the first two days of their trip ruined by Norwegian that joined in Corfu and they had similar experiences to ours) So at this point I have spoken to Norwegian employees on FOUR different continents all about how we have to join the ship in Greece and not one of them informed us that we have to have a doctor certified Covid test (did not need one in Italy), so we get to the ship with a couple of other families in the same boat as us and the person checking us in, says oh you have to go to a doctor in downtown Corfu and get a COVID test and then make it back before the ship leaves. HOW RIDICUOULS, we could have done that the day before if anyone would have told us. Oh and by the way you have to take your luggage with you. So after traveling for almost 70 hours, we have to drag our luggage on a bus to downtown Corfu, go up three floors, get a Covid test and then make it back to the ship, about 4 hours in total. We lost our time in Trieste, Our full day in Montenegro and now our full day in Corfu. The only saving grace was the staff on the ship was great, the service was really good. The food on the ship was pretty mediocre compared to the other 12 cruises I have been on, including Norwegian ships in the Caribbean.
Then on the way home, they did it AGAIN. they booked our flights too close together and we missed our connection in Munich (along with about 30 other people from our cruise). So we had to spend the night in Munich, causing us both to miss a day of work as well. Lufthansa again to the rescue, as they put us up in a hotel and paid for dinner and breakfast. So Norwegian, who booked all of this will take no responsibility for anything, we are out about $1500 in extra flights, hotel rooms, cab rides, breakfasts, lunches and dinners we were not planning on paying for, 2 days extra of PTO and we are just stuck with the bill, not to mention 2 days of a cruise we paid for that we did not get to use. Ridiculous. NEVER BOOK NORWEGIAN!
I'm certainly not saying your experience wasn't horrid but I have used NCL's air packages-once to London & once to Rome-without any significant problems. The time to talk to NCL about too short layovers is long before sailing day.
Wow…I have heard of issues, but that’s very upsetting. I have never booked thru the cruise line …thanks to this app! Thanks for letting people know of your experience and this incredibly poor customer service issue.
Appreciate your feedback. I always wondered about the flights being booked by the cruise line. Glad you are home safe now. At least you know next time (maybe different cruise line) how to get where you need to be. Thanks for sharing.
