Review summary

We liked this cruise as it covered a number of places we have not previously visited.  This was actually our 5th cruise this year and 3rd on NCL.  Although the staff was friendly we were not impressed with the room service or the dining rooms.  We felt that the food was mediocre and service was slow in the main dining rooms.  It was a little better in the specialty restaurants that were comped for us due to reported problems we encountered in the two main dining rooms.  With respect to the room comfort, the air conditioning was great as we like the room as cold as possible but the furniture looked worn and the bed was a bit lumpy.  We went on excursions at 4 of the 5 stops and were only completely satisfied with one of them with the Boston excursion disappointing primarily due to the guide.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The food was fair in the main dining rooms and a bit better in the specialty restaurants. There was not enough seating space in the buffet restaurant and food got cold quickly when trying to find a place to sit.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Attended Bingo and Deal or no deal. Felt that pricing was too high for the prizes won. A real money maker for the ship.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Generally ok but not great. Ship performers and band was very good.

Service and Staff

1 out of 5
Room steward did not really put full effort in to keeping the cabin floors clean. Food staff was friendly but very slow in getting orders processed and served.

Ship Quality

Overall clean and nice looking ship

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
The cabin was generally comfortable with enough space for handling our clothes. Did not particularly like the bathroom/shower setup. Room steward did not really put full effort in to keeping the cabin floors clean.

Ship tip

Avoid trying to dine immediately after the first show lets out as the lines get long and you may have to wait up to 30 minutes for a table. Waiting time is shorter if you agree to sit with others. The earlier you go to breakfast at the buffet the easier to find a place to sit.

Ports of call

New York, New York

The port is convenient for midtown but getting off the ship is a long walk with your luggage as you have to cross a main street to access your pickup vehicle

Halifax, Nova Scotia

Interesting quaint town. Enjoyed walking through downtown area and took local ride around the town. Found a great place for ice cream.

Boston, Massachusetts

Disappointed with tour. Guide waisted time in town and short-changed time at last stop by 30 minutes.

Newport, Rhode Island

We have seen some of the great palaces in Europe and Russia so we did not need to drive by the mansions. There was very little to do in port so after about two hors walking around town we returned to the ship for lunch.
