Review summary

This cruise was packed full of adventure. We flew into New York 3 nights early. We had never been to New York. We stayed at the M Social in Times Square. Our time in New York was great. We had wonderful food and fell in love with Central Park. We ate at Patsy’s and I think it was the best food! Their coffee and dessert were excellent also. The New England/Canada October 15-22 2023 was amazing. Everyone in our party had never been to any of the stops. Newport Rhode Island was nice but had to tender there. Portland Maine had great Sea food at DiMillo’s on the water. Make reservations when you get off the ship. We went at noon and made reservations for 3pm. The twin lobster was great as well as the clam chowder and the fried scallop sandwich. Bar harbor was also a tender stop so my husband opted out. My daughter,son-in-law did a trail by the water that curved back to town. It took about 20 minutes and was in front of Bar Harbor Hotel. Beautiful scenery. We did not care for St. John’s New Brunswick and boarded back on after 45 minutes. It has steep hills so keep that in mind when walking. My son-in-law made the most of the day and went to the waters edge and skipped rocks and then went to a coffee shop. Halifax was a fun day. Our group went to the maritime museum. The models of the ships were fascinating. The artifacts and stories from the Titanic were amazing. Also the pictures of the Halifax explosion were amazing. Afterward we took an Uber to the cemetery were over 100 people from the Titanic are buried. Then for lunch we went to The Henry Pub and not only will you get a wonderful lunch but also historical facts about the Halifax explosion and the Henry pub too. The Henry Pub is walking distance from Pier 21 where we were docked. We were all exhausted after this cruise which went to 5 Ports not counting NYC. There were always activities to do on board too. It was a vacation of a lifetime! It will be hard to top. Norwegian was organized and efficient.

Embarkation was flawless. We got to the pier after our assigned time and got right on the ship.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

The lunch buffet was excellent. O’Sheehans was great too. The specialty dining was disappointing. We chose the Brazilian Steakhouse and we’re not impressed with the side dishes. (I think I just found out that is not my thing - and what better way to discover that than when it is free). Our second specialty dining at Cagney’s we both chose prime rib and were disappointed in the quality of the meat. Our friend ate at Cagney’s and ordered steak and lobster 🦞 and said it was excellent. The buffet offered a huge variety of foods and I could always find something great there.

The ship was large. The largest ship I have been on. It was always clean and the staff was friendly and eager to help.

Ship tip

The ship is very large. Know the layout before going because it will be easy to miss areas.

The Maritime museum was fun. Then we went to the Fairview Lawn Cemetery and saw over 100 graves from people’s bodies recovered. Afterwards we went to The Henry pub. It was excellent. The pub is a two story house full of history. The owner told us the history of the house and some Halifax history too. It was fascinating.

Saint John, New Brunswick

Not much here but steep hills. We got off the ship and after 45 minutes went back and boarded.

Bar Harbor, Maine

This stop is for nature. It is absolutely beautiful. It has a few shops and restaurants. My favorite part was the trail we went on. It is in front of Bar Harbor hotel. The tide was out so we were able to skip rocks and see what we could find.

Newport, Rhode Island

It would be nice if we would not have to tender there. The cliff walk was beautiful and worth the Uber drive there. The trail was being walked by people of all ages. Afterward we took an Uber The Red Parrot. The Clam Chowder was excellent. My husband had the chili beans and said it was excellent too.

The food was amazing. DiMillo’s is a must stop for Sea food. Make reservations when you get off the ship. We went to Duck fat. Pastomi sandwich was good. Excellent ice tea and drinks. Cute town, great shopping.
