Review summary

A great cruise, overall. This was actually a makeup cruise for a Covid cancellation back in April 2020. Thanks again to Doc Reynolds for making all of our booking arrangements and keeping us informed as we planned and prepared.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Chaotic but fast. We boarded within 20 minutes of arrival.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The food was excellent in the MDR, Teppanyaki, Bayamo, and O’Sheahans. Buffet food was, well…buffet food. Excellent drinks on baord

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Lots of activities to choose from.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Entertainment ran hot and cold. The two headliner shows were Malevo and Choir of Man. Malevo was high energy and very well done. Choir of Man had great music but the message was confusing to us. I guess you need to be from the UK to get it…The two comedians on board were really good. We attended several of their shows. The atrium entertainment was lacking, mainly due to the poor sound equipment on board.

Children's Programs

No children accompanied us on the cruise.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Superb across the board! We had a wonderful cabin attendant. Great service I all the food venues. The bar service was fast and even entertaining.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Cleanliness was good all over the ship. The layout is good, easy to access all decks smoothly. The main theater is rather dull, but otherwise functions well.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Great cabin! Our bathroom was a bit larger. Large shower stall with great water pressure! The balcony is standard size but easy to maneuver on. A very quiet space, even with kids around us…

Ship tip

Show up to board early, knock out your e-muster immediately then take care of your meal and show reservations. You can do all of that on decks 6&7. You will board on deck 7. Skip the embarkation madhouse in the buffet and head to either the MDR or O’Sheahans for a leisurely lunch.

Ports of call

Port Canaveral, Florida Did not visit port

Just there to board and disembark. We stayed overnight with family in the Orlando area prior to boarding.

Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic Did not visit port

We actually docked at Amber Cove, a few miles up the coast from Puerto Plata. It was ok, nothing special. Typical Caribbean cruise port with market stalls, bars and a pool.

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

3 out of 5
Our third time here, so nothing stands out. Beatific arrival and a gorgeous sunset departure.

Tortola, British Virgin Islands

3 out of 5
Another typical Caribbean cruise port. Nothing special for us.

Great Stirrup Cay (Cruise Line Private Island), Bahamas Did not visit port

We opted to stay on board. The weather (rain and choppy seas) was a factor here.

Disembarkation

It was running smoothly up to the point we stepped into the terminal to collect our luggage. We came to a dead full stop in line for over an hour. No explanation given, so a mystery why we had to wait so long. We could literally see our luggage. On the terminal floor but couldn’t get to it. Once we finally picked up our luggage, we were expedited through customs within a few minutes. So, a mystery there… we purchased a bus transfer offered by NCL to MCO in advance. That went smoothly.
