Review summary

Overall I very much enjoyed this cruise and had a wonderful time. Despite one port of call being cancelled and replaced with a sea day, it was still a great trip. Most of the staff were wonderful. There were some issues with the Haven I heard about from friends I had staying in that part of the ship, and my room steward was less engaged than I’ve experienced in the past. On this cruise the guests did not have to wear masks, but the staff wore them everywhere. I’m glad I had the chance to sail on the Epic, however of the 4 NCL ships I’ve sailed on so far, this was by far my least favorite ship. Everything felt very enclosed and hard to find. There were only a few bars that you could really sit and enjoy yourself, the Atrium bar was tiny and not set up the way it is on the other ships. There is no waterfront and the spa is at the back of the ship unlike on others. The only plus I will say about the spa is that it has a wonderful (albeit small) outside deck area that faces aft and has an incredible view. I was able to watch as we departed port one evening and see the sunset. Besides the pool/upper decks, that was the only other outdoor area on the ship. I look forward to cruising with NCL again, but it most likely won’t be on the Epic.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
The computers were having issues which slightly delayed embarkation for my group, but otherwise it went smoothly enough.

Ship experiences

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
I did two of the slides which were really fun!

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Really enjoyed Howl at the Moon and Burn the Floor. Priscilla was cancelled the week I was on so did not get to see that show. The live entertainment (musicians) were ok, the guitarist in Maltings was my favorite.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The three stars is for the ship design only. The cleanliness was superb. Overall I was not a huge fan of the layout of this ship. It felt very enclosed with few places to actually go outdoors. There did not seem to be as many bars as on the other large ships, and the cabin design as many have mentioned was not the most logical.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
The size of the cabin was perfectly fine as I was traveling solo. The balcony seemed slightly larger than on other ships in similar cabins. The layout of the bathroom/shower didn’t bother me because I had no roommate, but if I’d been traveling with a friend it would have been awkward.

Ship tip

Be aware of the cabin layout, specifically the toilet and shower if you are traveling with anyone else staying in the same cabin.
