Review summary

Our first time to Alaska, it was wonderful. NCL Encore is a great ship with plenty of bar and restaurants for open spaces, loved the layout of the ship. Covid pre boarding process was pretty easy and took about 1.5 hours to get on the ship. Kind of like Disney World just move from station to station and before you know it you are on the ship.

Well designed cabin, made good use of all the spaces with plenty of storage and nice balcony. Liked having the bed next to the balcony. Well located in middle of the ship, easy access to everything and quiet.

Ship tip

Take advantage of the go kart speedway on dry days. If it is wet out, you can't use it. Otherwise the ship is one of the best laid out ships ever been on.

Ports of call

Ketchikan, Alaska

Once again, NCL to save money has a dock 20 min out of town and requires waiting for busses and 20 minute bus ride.

Skagway, Alaska

Long walk from the dock but free gold cart shuttle to help those with disabilities. The town is fun and good shopping. Train ride is great and fun and train stops at boat dock at the end of the ride.

Free shuttle to take you into town. Mendenhall Glacier and Nugget waterfall are fun and beautiful.

Icy Strait Point (Hoonah), Alaska

Be aware NCL bought a dock far away from town and excursions. Bad directions and signage as you need to take gondola to get to the other dock. Saves NCL but inconvenience for passengers.
