Review summary

I am glad I visited these countries but I would not recommend this cruise line over the other 5 lines with whom I have cruised.

Embarkation

2 out of 5
I have sailed on 6 different cruise lines. This was NCL and I had not been on one of their ships for 35 years. I was disappointed. The embarkation chaos was worse than any other previous experience.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
worst experience trying to get a reservation at the Venetian. I was told to give the Aqua restaurant a try. It took 15 minutes in line to be told it would be another 20 minutes to be seated. Once seated it was a full hour of being served only bread and water. Then the order was taken to wait another 30 minutes to be served. It all ended up being nearly 2 hours of far less than stellar service. I was charged $35 for an 6 inch round, one inch thick cake to commemorate an anniversary. Thereafter I took my meals in the cafe on deck 12. Even there the menu was ethnically inspired spicy foods with a few exceptions. I felt like I was eating a buffet in the middle of stampede. One of the lead officers over the food service was a large female that wore her perfume so heavy it was toxic. When she was around the cafe I would hold my breath and quickly leave before becoming ill from the smell. The roving food staff banter was irritating.... washee washee, wakey wakey, happy happy.

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
weather was too cool for my comfort so I did not participate

Entertainment

2 out of 5
quality of entertainment was sub par from my previous cruise experiences with other cruise lines.

Children's Programs

3 out of 5
N/A

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
cabin steward was very good. Guest services good. Large lady with toxic perfume was offensive

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
rather challenging getting to different restaurant locations and I did not see where the Venetian had access for the disabled. The restaurant was accessible by stairs only as far as I could tell.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
cabin steward was very attentive and did a very good job.

Goteborg (Gothenburg), Sweden

industrial park port visit. rainy day. If I wanted to see the city I had to pay $40 to take a round trip on a bus. I had already paid for hop on hop off bus but it did not come to the port.

Oslo, Norway

wish the itinerary had 2 days in Oslo and skip Kiel and Goteborg

Disembarkation

2 out of 5
another round of chaos, rain and very long line waiting for a very expensive taxi ride to the airport
