Review summary

As you can see there were many positives and we enjoyed our first transatlantic cruise very much. However, NCL has a lot of issues organizing some things and it’s overall casual culture is not for us. We will probably not cruise NCL again.

Embarkation

3 out of 5
Better than some have been. Still too long of a wait for wheelchair assistance. Arrived slightly past checking time and had to wait about 2 hours for wheelchair to embark. Process went well after that.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Food and wine in all restaurants was very good as always. Nice selection, lots of variety and all well prepared.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Trivia and fun exercise in morning was good but overall not enough stimulating lectures on sea days. We’re older cruisers so other activities are not possible. Not able to use pool area because it was too cold on this itinerary.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Stage shows, singers and comedian were good but juggler and illusionist was boring. Overall not the great entertainment usually provided by NCL.

Children's Programs

No children

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
All service was excellent. Service and interactions with ship staff was one of the best parts of cruise.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
This should be 2 questions. Ship was clean and well maintained. The layout was awkward. Hard to get around because of many specialty restaurants chopping up layout. Also there was very limited space in open areas and atrium for seating. No real comfortable space to sit and any seating was always crowded.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Overall comfort and cleanliness was good but it is small. Good closet space and drawers. Nice shower but bathroom sized overall was tight. I can’t imagine how very large people manage it. Fortunately I am small and husband is average size.

Ship tip

Think about the size when the itinerary is to cold climates.

Ports of call

New York, New York Did not visit port

We live here so love it of course!

Halifax, Nova Scotia

5 out of 5
Halifax has wonderful history. Been here before so did views of Halifax excursion and loved it.

St. Pierre & Miquelon Did not visit port

Ship skipped port because of weather.

St. John's, Newfoundland Did not visit port

Ship skipped this port also because of weather.

Reykjavik, Iceland

5 out of 5
Loved Reykjavik and the Golden Circle excursion was wonderful. Would have liked more time here. We were there over nite but needed to do a non-NCL excursion to try and see northern lights.

Belfast, Northern Ireland

5 out of 5
Belfast was great and excursion to Londonderry was very good.

Dun Laoghaire (Dublin), Ireland

5 out of 5
Dublin also was great and city tour was okay. Would have liked for NCL to offer a private car and guide as excursion option. My husband has walking issues so private car is best way to see city such as Dublin. Other cruise lines offer a private car excursion option when in port cities for those who wish to pay the premium.

Le Havre (Paris), France

5 out of 5
Enjoyed the excursion to Giverney and Rouen.

Southampton (London), England Did not visit port

We were ready to go home and had a 1:00 flight from Heathrow.

Disembarkation

This was great. Well organized for wheelchair disembark. Kudos to NCL staff and port staff for this.
