Review summary

I have cruised with NCL before and totally enjoyed the cruise. This was the worst cruise and many other passengers had similar concerns. If I had not had a balcony I would not have enjoyed much on this cruise. Communication needed to be several levels higher. Staff seemed to be unconcerned about guests and the enjoyment of the cruise. Many staff were so lack luster and lacked personality.

Embarkation

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Food was cool or cold, multiple lanes and devices were "out of order" throughout the cruise. Aqua was good, but Venetian was a minimum of 3 hours for dinner and very poor service. Specialty dining is unclear as to which restaurants are included. Speciality dining was difficult to schedule.

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
Very little excitement from the staff for any activities. Very poor communication to guests about the activity cards. Location of many of the activities were in very limited spaces. Did not foster an inviting atmosphere.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Shows were average, nothing was awesome or memorable.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Room stewar.d was a little too familiar. Bartenders were the most entertaining and friendly

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The layout is strange and difficult to navigate. The ship was clean.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The cabin was wonderful.

Ship tip

Don't talk to NCL about your plans, they have very poor communication.

Ports of call

Newport, Rhode Island

3 out of 5
Excursion was level 2. A quarter of our group had canes or walkers. We were constantly waiting for them to catch up. Missed the end of our excursion because we ran out of time.

Boston, Massachusetts

3 out of 5
Very interesting excursion but the group was too large to hear most of the guide outside of the bus.

Portland, Maine

1 out of 5
Re entering the ship was an issue. Port personnel was rude and condescending. No signage to explain what to expect when going through the security.

Bar Harbor, Maine

4 out of 5
Enjoyed the port, but did not go on NCL excursion.

Saint John, New Brunswick

3 out of 5
Tour guide was very opinionated, took away from the enjoyment of the tour.

Halifax, Nova Scotia

5 out of 5
This excursion was excellent, but not booked through NCL.

Sydney, Nova Scotia

3 out of 5
Disappointing that the port had a special program and demonstration for those who disembarked immediately. If you were not in the first groups to get off, you missed it all.

Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island Did not visit port

The ship did not stop at this port of call due to weather.

La Baie, Quebec

3 out of 5
Kinda of a lack luster stop, did not do an excursion as the selection was very limited.

Quebec City, Quebec

3 out of 5
Two days was too long for what was offered as excursions.

Disembarkation

1 out of 5
Communication was terrible. Rules did not apply. Port facilities were not of cruise ship quality. Excursions to the airport were full and transfers were poorly organized.

Oh my! We just loved the Dawn! We took my 74 year old mother on her first cruise in April! She is now hooked! There was so much to do on the ship every day!

Sounds like cruising is not for you. Most people love it, but it’s not for everyone. It’s always best to do research on your own and not depend on the ship personnel or others to tell you everything.
