Even though a ship may not appear to be all shiny and sparkly, as long as the service and food are good, and everything works the way it should (and it doesn't leak), then I would consider it acceptable. Service and food quality are what turn a 3 star into a 5 star cruise.
Sorry this one didn't meet your expectations. Perhaps a newer ship and/or a different line may be a better fit for you?
